North Vader | Snowboard tours in the Lyngen Alps

A visually stunning trip report from Helvetic Backcountry

by Helvetic Backcountry 01/03/2012
Our adventures in the mountains actually start at Zurich main station. A train journey takes us to a mountain village, an ascent to a mountain peak. Weightless turns in the powder make beads of sweat disappear. A day out snowboarding with friends. That's what we love.

Our adventures in the mountains actually start at Zurich main station. A train journey leads to a mountain village, an ascent to a mountain peak. Weightless turns in the powder make beads of sweat disappear. A day out snowboarding with friends. That's what we love.

In March 2011, we followed this successful principle, but this time the trains took us far north, across the Arctic Circle to Norway in the Lyngen Alps. The trip took fifty hours. But not for a second did we regret leaving our beloved homeland. For three weeks we lived in Kviteberg (Norway) with a family in seclusion. Storms, northern lights, overnight stays in cabins and lines that none of the "vaders" will forget left a lasting impression on this trip.

Background info on the movie

It should be noted that this movie is much more a documentary of what we're looking for than the other way around. We roam the mountains with our boards on our backs or on splitboards to ride powder lines. If there is an opportunity to record the action, we are happy to do so. However, we didn't use any additional equipment such as a helicopter or snowmobile for any of the shots. All the shots, including the action, were shot under our own steam. There is no budget for the film.
