The Open Faces focus on young talent: Two of the three FWT junior competitions taking place in Austria in 2015 will be held as part of the Open Faces Contests in Kappl (18.01.2015) and on the Hochkönig (08.02.2015).
Between January 7 and April 18, 2015, a total of 15 events for young riders aged between 14 and 17 will take place in Europe as part of the Freeride Juniors Tour. The junior competitions will be organized in a similar way to the FWQ stops and will therefore also be divided into performance levels from 1* to 4* events, with the only 4* competition in Europe being the Juniors World Championships in Grandvalira, Andorra (Pyrenees). In the coming season, the Open Faces will also be organizing two of these Juniors contests in the 2* category, namely at the tried and tested "Stoana Mandl" face on the Hochkönig (08.02.15) and in Kappl-Paznaun (18.01.15), one day after the start of the adults at the 2* FWQ Open Faces Kappl-Paznaun. "The addition of two Juniors events fulfills a long-held wish of ours. One of the basic ideas behind the formation of the Open Faces Freeride Contests was to make it easier for zero-point riders to enter the scene and to make freeriding even better known. By hosting the Juniors events, we are going further and starting exactly where we can still make a big difference, namely with young people," explains Markus Löffler from the organizing team. "Our goal is to organize professional FWQ Juniors. It is also important to us to consciously draw attention to the safety aspect and professional preparation for skiing and snowboarding in open terrain," adds Markus Kogler, organizer and safety officer of the Open Faces Freeride Contests. What the next generation of freeriders can look forward to: A public area, professional judging and an extensive entertainment program also await the audience at the Open Faces Juniors events.
Kick-off at the Innsbruck Alpine Fair
The Alpine Fair on November 15 and 16, 2015 in Innsbruck will once again be the official kick-off event for the 2015 OPEN FACES contest season. In addition to an information stand, the popular riders judging workshops (Saturday, 4.30 pm and Sunday, 11.00 am) with the Open Faces judges will once again take place. For the first time this year, there will also be a separate contest workshop for girls. On Saturday at 11.00 am, freeride world champion Nadine Wallner will be on hand to discuss topics such as line choice, ideal preparation, safety and much more. and answer questions.
