This year, Teton Gravity Research presents "The Dream Factory", a film that shows the development of freeriding in Alaska from then until today. The film depicts the first beginnings of heliskiing in Alaska and the protagonists who have made this place what it is today: the dream of all freeriders. You can see big mountain skiing at its best in Alaska with smaller detours to Pemberton (BC) and Jackson Hole (WY) that are well worth seeing.
Heliskiing for five dollars? Landing by plane on a lonely peak in AK? In the early days of skiing in AK, all this was still affordable and feasible. This is followed by a scene in which the young guns of today show off their skills. The film sequences are therefore very simple: A brief historical review with footage from earlier times and then a comparison of big mountain skiing in 2012. The footage of the downhill runs from the 70s and 80s is particularly interesting, as it can certainly compete with those of today. The development of the young Doug Coombs and his "Jackson Hole Air Force" crew is also worth seeing and sheds light on the development of the guys around TGR. The Dream Factory" is certainly a little more profound and provides more information than many of its predecessors thanks to its historical reappraisal. In terms of skiing, the film is some of the best you can see from the boys these days. Fat drops, technically perfect descents on breathtaking spines, countless face shots and speeds beyond good and evil.
Conclusion
"The Dream Factory" is a really successful freeride film without being too profound. The film sequences from the early days of freeriding in AK give the movie much more content than previous productions. Unfortunately, snowboarders and lovers of female freeride action are only served marginally and don't seem to be the target group. If you just want to be entertained for 80 minutes and want to see some very good big mountain action with a shallow historical review of the skiing conquest of Alaska, then this movie is definitely recommended. Beer on, brain off and movie off. Film length: 80 minutes
