Together with Mathias Roten, Ueli Kestenholz founded the project "Playgravity" and published the first part in 2007. After the death of his good friend and speedflying partner in 2008, Ueli asked himself how he should continue. He found a charismatic group in many of his friends from different areas of extreme sports, with whom the sequel, "playgravity 2 - the other side", was created.
Together they created a film in memory of a good friend: freeride snowboarding in Alaska joins forces with bigwave surfing on Maui, wave kiting in Indonesia, synchronized paragliding and many other extreme sports. Each sport is portrayed by a strong personality, but in a pleasantly philosophical and thought-provoking way. The film thus becomes a thought-provoking treat in a class of its own.
Conclusion
Like so many in the extreme sports genre, this film shows breathtaking images of feats that push the boundaries of what is humanly possible, carried and supported by an inspiring soundtrack. So why this movie? "The Other Side" doesn't just show images that make our jaws drop to our chests. It brings the viewer closer to the athletes. It shows in an impressive way how extraordinary people deal with borderline situations and prepare themselves for them. This encourages the viewer to think about life, death and the risks in life using the example of extreme sports and extreme athletes.
Thanks to the mix and variety of sports shown, you can watch this film all year round and presumably get excited about a different part each time.
Thanks to the subject matter, which gives the film a continuous "red thread", "Playgravity 2 - The Other Side" clearly sets itself apart from the usual extreme sports films for me and floats quasi gravity-free at the top of my DVD collection.
Film length: approx. 55 minutes
Price: 39 CHF so approx. 30 €
Bonus: Strong outtakes that are really worth watching. Especially the "flying along" on the shoulder of an eagle...
