Normally, I'm not really into baggy pants and banister slides. But this movie has broadened my horizons. For one thing, you don't wear baggy pants anymore, but leggings or bell bottoms. Also, with his first snowboard movie, Justin Mayer has brought an absolutely varied and original jibb flick to the market.
The guys from Videograss are super creative in their choice of spots and don't let anything get in their way when it comes to camera technology and sound. It's all about the pure snowboarding and the personalities. The crew knows no respect - no respect for their bodies and their health: some of the spots are anything but safe. No respect for the style police: long hair, moustache, jacket and yellow leggings. No respect for generally accepted values: joints, testicles, bare asses, stinky fingers and the like play the leading role alongside the rail riders. No respect for public property: here they shred anything that can be found, is visually appealing and is as radical and hurtful as possible.
And you have to admit one thing about the Jung, despite their seeming inertia: they've really got it. They charmingly and creatively combine monotonous off-piste sliding with an insight into the jibber subculture.
Conclusion
"In a sea of cable cams and helicopters fiming helicopters in other videos today, Videograss was formed to focus on raw snowboarding, real personality, and progression." And that sums it up perfectly. Videograss is absolutely worth watching - even for die-hard anti-jibbers like me! 44 minutes of amusing freestyle action, some of which is reminiscent of Jackass. There's not a dry eye in the house.
