Gear of the Week | Black Diamond Impulse Gloves

Super robust freeride glove that keeps you very warm and still allows enough feeling to keep a firm grip on your poles.

02/23/2025 by Baschi Bender
In his search for a new freeride glove, Baschi Bender, a long-time PowderGuide photographer, has always taken a very critical approach due to his on-and-off job. This time he seems to have made a really good catch.

I'm primarily a skier and the Impulse Glove is my "every day" glove, no matter where I'm travelling. You simply always have warm hands and it feels super comfortable. Of course I wear a lighter glove for skinning on ski tours, but it's my "weapon of choice" on the downhill.

Thanks to the generous wrist strap, the glove always sits securely on the wrist, even if you want to clean your glasses in the lift and have to take the glove off.

It has a "short cuff", i.e. you wear it under your jacket, which I find very comfortable. This short neoprene cuff can also be closed with a Velcro fastener over the wrist, which prevents any snow from getting into the glove.

This brings us to the next punk: Waterproof! Thanks to the Gore-Tex® membrane, the glove is not only waterproof but also breathable! Skiing for two hours in the rain was no problem. The hands were absolutely dry!

As you can see, I'm a fan of the product. But actually, just holding the glove in your hand, it simply feels high-quality. This is partly thanks to the hard-wearing goatskin leather, which is double-stitched on the inside.

The PrimaLoft® insulation is slightly thicker on the outside than on the inside. This gives you a good grip and extra protection on the outside.

About the size: I wear the gloves in size M, although I don't actually have small hands and am 1.89m tall. I usually wear L or XL. So be sure to check the size chart here or simply try them on, preferably at your local dealer.

The perfect "Gear of the Week" for me as I've always worn gloves that are too thin so that I can grip better. Now I have something with which I can get a great grip and still have warm hands.
