Gear of the Week | Marker 3D+ Otis

For a good view

by Philip Crivelli 01/09/2016
Last week I told you about the Marker Phoenix Otis helmet, today I'm writing about the matching goggles. As with helmets, there has been a lot of development in goggles over the last few years, so there are many innovative products on the market today.

First impression

Before I tested the goggles in the snow, I first wanted to familiarize myself with the details. In the package, the goggles come with a high-quality case and a second (bad weather) lens. Compared to the goggles I'm used to, the field of vision of the 3D+ Otis is slightly narrower, but by no means limited.

Short test

The Xdry face pad described by Marker makes the goggles extremely comfortable to wear. With the matching helmet, the goggles follow the contours very well. The lenses are very high quality. Only the slightly narrower field of vision compared to my normal goggles was a little irritating at first, but after a short time it is no longer noticeable. During the last two weeks, the conditions were varied, so I was able to test both pairs of glasses. What was noticeable was that both lenses offer good, high-contrast and comfortable vision even in less than optimal light.

The system for quickly and easily changing the lenses is "fiddly" and unfortunately didn't quite convince me. Compared to other systems, it is less intuitive and takes some practice. But it's best not to change, after all, Hermann Maier rode with the same yellow lenses for almost his entire career :-)
