I haven't been around that long in the smartphone - and therefore app - era, but I've already realized that apps are like many other innovations in everyday life. In theory they would be very useful, but in practice they are either too expensive, too cumbersome, not functional or all of the above. The MeteoSchweiz app, on the other hand, is the second excellent app (besides WhiteRisk) that I know of from Switzerland. It is graphically clear, has an intuitive user interface and offers lots of useful information about the weather.
On smaller displays (smartphones), the main menu is divided into four wider bars. The top bar contains a customizable weekly forecast in pictogram style, below it a bar for the various animations and forecasts and a written weather report. The third section is the current measured values section. And in the last part of the main menu, you can add your own locations for quicker direct access.
The devil or the genius is in the detail here. Animations not only include various satellite image animations but also precipitation, temperature and cloud animations with a look back and look ahead function.
The written weather report is divided geographically into German-speaking Switzerland, western Switzerland and the south side of the Alps and is supplemented by a general weather situation with an isobar map, similar to the PowderGuide service. What is really ingenious, however, is the hazard forecast, which can also be wonderfully individualized. Once you have saved the locations of your choice on the home screen, you can set push warnings for them in the areas of storm/thunderstorm/rain/slippery roads/heatwave and frost in varying degrees of severity.
However, if you do want to go somewhere else, the Switzerland-wide map with its regional subdivision is very useful for getting an overview of the general Swiss weather conditions. When the GPS is switched on, your own location is also visualized on all maps with a red dot - nice! The current measured values map then offers pretty much everything that is important to the weather nerd, updated every 10 minutes. Whether foehn index or dew point, precipitation or sunshine duration - there is everything the weather heart desires. And that for Android and Apple devices.
So far, so excellent.
However, I would still have one wish for improvement: if the makers could manage to integrate the complete SLF station data with the current measured values, the app would be perfect. That way, there is at least some potential for improvement.
