Gear of the Week | einStoffen Driver Sunglasses

Good wood....

by Steffen Kruse 03/18/2018
All winter long, we move around on these mostly wooden gliding devices. But why should we only wear this wonderful material from Mother Earth on our feet? The relatively young company einStoffen from St Gallen (Switzerland) apparently thought so too (2008).

Just looking at the small maple wood box is a real pleasure. It becomes even more so when you push the lid aside and take a closer look at the contents. The beautiful and high-quality box gives hope for a great pair of glasses.

The company einStoffen not only makes glasses from wood (sustainable forestry) and stone, but also offers unusual shirts and watches.

But now a deeper look into the wooden box. The design and presentation is of course very special and certainly not to everyone's taste, but I think it's a cracker and just brilliant. On my nose is the "Driver" version, how could it be otherwise! These glasses are handmade from ebony and pear wood and produced in a laminated wood construction. They are super comfortable to wear on the nose (well-shaped support) and, apart from the hinges (German OBE spring hinges), are made without any foreign material. The glasses are 14.5 cm wide and 4.9 cm high. High-quality, anti-reflective and anti-scratch coated CR39 plastic lenses (UV 400) ensure a protected view. I don't think it needs any further explanation that each pair of glasses is unique.

I certainly wouldn't wear this good piece (approx. 170 EUR) for everyday freeriding. Not that the goggles couldn't and wouldn't withstand this, but for me they were a gift and are still something special.

We all love to go/ride our own way and not poke around in tracked terrain. So why not put this individual language on the nose?

Always have a clear and good view
