First impression
The Soulquest jacket from Salomon is a hardshell jacket of the more solid kind, which also weighs a bit. I tested the jacket in size Large, the men's version. At just over 180 cm tall, the jacket is long enough at all ends and cut rather wide (wide in the sense of not tight, not wide in the sense of baggy). This is the so-called "Motion Fit" cut, which is designed to offer a lot of freedom of movement, especially for "big lines" and "technical descents", according to the manufacturer's description.
The jacket has two normal, spacious zipped pockets, one of which has a glasses cleaning cloth sewn into it. An inner mesh pocket is designed for storing ski goggles, but is also suitable for handkerchiefs or jelly babies. There is a second, smaller inner pocket with a zipper and an exit for a headphone cable, as well as a ski pass pocket on the outside of the left sleeve and two ventilation zippers on the armpits/underarms. The snow skirt can be fastened with press studs and can be removed (zipper). The cuffs are sewn in with "thumb-through" cuffs. They are made of elastic material and fit quite snugly around the hand. According to the manufacturer, the jacket therefore has "professional features, professional materials and a professional fit". So nothing should stand in the way of a professional Soulquest trip.
