Freeride Film Festival | Nordkette snow depth prediction game

PowderGuide brings the legendary snow depth prediction game to the FFF in Innsbruck!

PowderGuide is a partner of this year's Freeride Film Festival and is bringing the legendary PG snow depth prediction game to Innsbruck. Of course, everyone can take part, even those who are not at the Metropol Cinema. Directly above the venue is the Nordkette/Seegrube snow hole close to the city. But how much fresh snow is there on the Seegrube in an average season?

In Europe, the annual accumulated amount of fresh snow is a rather unusual measure of the perforation of a snow hole.

"The annual accumulated new snowfall total is the total amount of new snow that is added up over a year."

Typically, the amount of new snow is measured by hand at observer stations at 8 o'clock in the morning. The sum of these measurements over an entire season gives the accumulated amount of fresh snow.

The employees of the Avalanche Commission take these measurements every morning at the Seegrube - and have been doing so since around 1966! In 2024, they didn't have that much to read: The accumulated fresh snow total was just 415 cm, making it the second-lowest figure since measurements began!

Snow depth prediction game at the Freeride Film Festival

Exclusively for the two stops in Innsbruck, we have come up with two tricky tips that have to be guessed as accurately as possible. Of course, everyone is welcome to guess, even those who are not on site at the Metropol cinema.

The first tip is: What is the average annual accumulated amount of fresh snow at the Seegrube observation station since the start of measurements in centimetres?

The second tip is: What is the largest measured annual accumulated amount of fresh snow at the Seegrube observation station since the start of measurements in centimetres?

How to take part:

Write your two tips as a comment under the article by 11.11.2025, 23:59 at the latest! The time of the comment counts and everyone can only enter once. You can also enter via the corresponding social media post by commenting there. The three most accurate tips win. If there are several identical results, the respective place will be decided by lot.

As always, legal recourse is excluded.

And this is what you can win:

Just in time for the coming winter, you can look forward to the latest PowderGuide clothing! Depending on whether you wear them in the city or on the mountain, you can win functional and high-quality first or second layers in a sleek design for all adventures. Some pieces from the collection can be seen live at the PowderGuide.com stand at both stops of the Freeride Film Festival in Innsbruck on November 7 and November 8, 2025.

The double tip with the smallest deviation wins the PowderGuide.com insulated hooded jacket worth €219.95. Not all sizes of the current colors are available anymore. But we can inform you in advance that we will be adding new colors soon!
