Tours on a splitboard are great experiences. Compared to the ascent with snowshoes, it is as easy as a feather and you don't have to make any compromises on the descent. However, the requirements differ significantly from ski tours, as flat sections are still a drag on the descent and, depending on the conditions and equipment, you may have a little more trouble on the ascent than on skis. Overall, however, technical development has made a huge leap forward in recent years and splitboarding has become a serious alternative to ski touring.
This is exactly where the HELVETIC BACKCOUNTRY powder trips come in. David, one of the very few Swiss mountain guides who travel by splitboard, and Markus, one of the authors of the Ski & Snowboard Tourenatlas Schweiz, have picked out some wonderful locations to go on tour for a weekend. The focus is on proper "shredding" in playful terrain, but at the same time as much knowledge as possible should be imparted on planning and carrying out a snowboard tour. David, as a former rider on the Swiss Boardercross Tour, also has a few tips in his pocket on how to improve your riding technique. Skiers are of course also welcome on the powder trips, but only as long as there are no short turns....;-)
A total of four weekends are on offer. A maximum of 8 people can register per weekend. The planned activities vary in character. Usually a cozy mountain hut is the base for tours in the surrounding area, but an exciting traverse from the Valais to the Bernese Oberland is also on the agenda. Another special trip on the program is a weekend in the Lötschental, David's home territory.
