It got better step by step and the dreary rainy days of early February were quickly forgotten. Every now and then, some fresh snow fell, albeit not in the usual quantities. In between, the weather was briefly sunny and very warm - and with it came an increased risk of avalanches.

We are basically very nice boys and didn't want to go down there, but the snow probably thought "I'll show the boys where to go". Size of the avalanche: approx. 350 meters in altitude, crossed the river and flowed another 50 m up the slope on the opposite side. We still don't know whether the avalanche was remotely triggered or self-triggered.

Powder, trouble with the ski troll, sun (a rather rare guest in the permanent snowfall paradise) and even more powder. In the third part of Patrick Fux's Japan sequel report, Japan nevertheless shows its classic winter side: lots of fresh snow!
