The Ski lodge Engelberg
The Ski Lodge Engelberg was brought to life in 2008 as a meeting place for all those who love the mountains as much as the founders. As passionate skiers, the owners of the Ski Lodge have traveled the world for a long time. They set themselves the goal of combining their best travel experiences in their own hotel. A place with tempting cuisine and regional wines, a cozy bar for interesting conversations and passionate staff who love good service as much as they love the mountains. The Ski Lodge in Engelberg is now regarded as the "headquater" of the international freeride scene, with the lodge growing far beyond this meeting point and the flair being appreciated by a wide audience and locals alike.
The Freeride Eldorado
Engelberg-Titlis has become a Mecca for freeriders in Switzerland and Europe. The reasons for this include the terrain and its own microclimate and the associated above-average snowfall. The "Big 5" are almost world-famous. Five unique freeride routes, all of which can be reached directly from the cable car or ski lifts. If you are looking for the ultimate freeride adventure, you can tackle the Big 5 in one day in good conditions, covering around 10,000 meters in altitude.
One of the world's most famous freeride runs is the "Laub" and not without reason. When you reach Engelberg, you can't miss the Laub. Its width makes the Laub look imposing and mighty. The steep descent with a 32-38 degree incline is a highlight for all freeride fans.
The Big 5 also includes the Steinberg (the route leads over glaciers), Steinitäli, Sulz and the royal descent, the Galtiberg. The Galtiberg is one of the longest freeride descents in the world. The route leads from Klein Titlis over 2'000 vertical meters back to the Engelberg Valley. The tour is very demanding and only recommended for experienced freeriders. Due to its length and unique terrain, the Galtiberg is something very special, even for freeride pros.
In addition to the Big 5, there are many other ski tours that can be tackled on touring skis. The area around Engelberg offers many peaks with breathtaking mountain panoramas and steep descents.
