As is the case with these lows in the Mediterranean, it's not yet clear exactly where and how much snow is coming. Here, the weather models are still almost as reliable as the old fuddy-duddies from childhood in the 80s, who used to say things like "Next week it's going to snow, the hazel mice are crazy". Forgive me for this invented, and idiomatically completely incorrect, Alpine cliché ...
So it looks like: It will probably snow from Piedmont to MonteRosa on the eastern side of the south-western Alps. Also in Carinthia and Slovenia. Whether it will also reach the Dolomites is questionable and should be answered by Zausel, because I'm not sure. The other southern Alps will probably miss out due to the southern path of the depression.
The amounts: the focus is in Piedmont and between 40 and 70 cm are coming there. Possibly also 10 to 20 cm upwards due to the lingering nature of the low. Further north, the Eastern Alps from Aosta to Monte Rosa will see 30 to 50 cm, although I would rather calculate with a downward uncertainty of up to 20 cm here, as it will be very sharp.
In the Dolomites and other very southern mountain groups towards Slovenia, it could be anything between zero and 50 cm. But I reckon it's more likely to be zero. In Slovenia and parts of Carinthia, 20 to 50 cm will then come together, as the low will pass here quite safely.
Whether Ullr will then fill the powder pans of the north, especially the northeast, from Sunday/Monday Justitia is still in the stars and will come on Saturday at the earliest in the hopefully next alarm.
So hopefully see you soon and:
Powder to the people (in exotic places)!
