Opposition to cable car project(s) in the Kalkkögeln
07/07/2014 • Lukas Zögernitz
The Kalkkögel in Tyrol are located southwest of Innsbruck between the Axamer Lizum and Schlick 2000 ski resorts. It is precisely this location that could now be the protected area's undoing. The ski areas are to be connected by a lift that runs through the middle of the protected mountain area. The Austrian Alpine Association recently launched a petition in an attempt to counterbalance the ever-increasing political lobbying of the planners. -

IF3 Innsbruck - short event review
10/11/2013 • Tobias HuberFor five days in the first week of October, several thousand visitors celebrated freeski culture, film, the sport and themselves at the international Freeski Film Festival in Hintertux and Innsbruck. The iF3 showed over 30 films from the current premiere season, brought many a well-known rider from the scene to Tyrol and ensured exuberant parties in Innsbruck's town halls. The second edition of iF3 was in no way inferior to last year's event and was a complete success in the eyes of the organizers. -

Up to three times as much precipitation fell as usual in January. With cold high Cooper, a rather dry, very frosty phase is now imminent. -

TouringTip | From the Axamer Lizum to Sellrain
03/24/2011 • Lorenzo RiegThis quite easy and mostly very lonely crossing offers many meters of descent with a relatively short ascent as well as a great Kalkkögel panorama. Although the Senderstal seems to be made for ski touring, tours are rarely undertaken. The reason for this is the long ascent via the toboggan run to the Kemater Alm and the aversion of Tyrolean ski tourers to lifts and the aversion of most freeriders to ascents. -

WeatherBlog for freeriders 14/2011 | Spring treats itself to a short vacation
03/16/2011 • Lea HartlThe past few days in the northern Alps have been characterized by sunshine and foehn winds. Low pressure system Yvan slowly moved from the Iberian Peninsula to the Mediterranean and provided the southerly flow that brought us gale-force gusts last weekend. Wind speeds of 140 km/h were measured on the Patscherkofel on Saturday (12.3), 115 km/h on the Zugspitze and an impressive 104 km/h in Innsbruck city center (station at the university).
