WeatherBlog 21 2025/26 | Better late than never
03/25/2026 • Lea HartlOur colleague Orakel has the details, but we also notice: Nordstau! For what feels like the first time this winter! At least east of the Arlberg, the base was and is poor to miserable for the end of March (!), but we are still happy about the late powder gifts. Also: Global weirding on the other side of the Atlantic. -

Snow of Tomorrow | The mountains are political - Part II
03/12/2026 • Lena MairIn the first article, “Snow of Tomorrow | The mountains are political - Part I,” Lena explained her connection to the mountains and why they should be seen as a political space. Her personal bond with nature and the threat posed by man-made climate change led her to question individual and societal responsibility — and ultimately to activism, which is the focus of this second article. This article is a guest contribution and reflects the author’s personal views. PowderGuide sees itself as a platform for discourse and aims to make different perspectives visible. Our “Snow of Tomorrow” section grew out of the debate on human-made climate change and now addresses broader critical and future-relevant issues in mountain sports. We invite you to join the discussion and share your perspective in the comments. -

Snow of Tomorrow | The mountains are political - Part I
03/10/2026 • Lena MairThis article is a guest contribution and reflects the personal views of the author. At PowderGuide, we see ourselves as a platform for discourse and want to highlight different perspectives. Our Snow of Tomorrow section grew out of the debate on man-made climate change – a topic that has both scientific and social dimensions – and is now dedicated to critical and future-relevant issues in the context of mountain sports. We invite you to participate constructively in the dialogue: if you have an opinion on any of the topics or would like to contribute, please feel free to do so in the comments section and contact us. Lena is a passionate ski tourer and activist. In this very personal article, she explains why the mountains are a political place for her. -

WeatherBlog 18 2025/26| Early spring
03/04/2026 • Michael StegerThe sun means well with us - perhaps a little too well. A small high-altitude low caused a few blemishes on Tuesday and Wednesday, then high pressure took over and the meteorological start of spring began with an omega situation. For us, this means big temperature differences between day and night, firn windows in the morning - and a watchful eye on the avalanche situation in the afternoon. -

Snow of Tomorrow | The Ski Industry Climate Summit 2026
03/03/2026 • Martin Svejkovsky & Kira RuohonenWinter sports are running out of time, but the ski industry is not running out of ideas. Right after ProWinter in Bolzano, the Ski Industry Climate Summit 2026 brought brands, researchers, recyclers and NGOs to the same table to discuss what real climate action looks like beyond glossy sustainability claims. From modular skis designed to be taken apart, to recycled high-performance materials, one message stood out: the biggest lever might be the least glamorous—making skis last longer, proving it with data, and building the systems that keep products in use instead of in storage. -

WeatherBlog 10 2025/26 | The Beast from the East
01/06/2026 • Sebastian Müller & Michael StegerAt the beginning of the year, it's not just world events that are coming thick and fast, but also the weather. Winter has finally descended on Europe, is currently spreading deep into the Balkans and the next trough promises to bring large amounts of fresh snow to the northern slopes of the Alps as early as today. High pressure is prevailing over Greenland, however, and temperatures are very high. We therefore turn our attention last to the special role that Greenland and its ice sheet play in the global climate. -

SnowChase 2025/26 | Xmas Special
12/23/2025 • Michael StegerMany people dream of a white Christmas. In our SnowChase Xmas Special, we take a closer look: Where does it snow under the Christmas tree, where does it stay green and where is it at least sugared? -

Gear of the Week | Snow
12/21/2025 • Martin SvejkovskyPowderGuide has been reporting on a "Gear of the Week" almost every week for over 10 years now. From ski suits to skin wax, ski boots, sunglasses and safety halves, almost everything has been included, but one thing has probably been forgotten and that is not at all unimportant for us freeriders. That's why this week is all about our favorite element: snow! -

World of Science I Tour de CCAMM
12/11/2025 • Jared KropfOn 17th November 2025, the Tour de CCAMM stopped in Chur, the first stop in a series of events with which the WSL research program CCAMM (Climate Change Impacts on Alpine Mass Movements) is transferring its key findings into practice. Since 2018, CCAMM has been investigating how climate change affects gravitational natural hazards in the Alps: from snow and avalanches, debris flows and rock movements to cascading processes, protective forests and social impacts. -

Snow of Tomorrow 3 2025/26 | What kind of future do ski resorts want?
11/25/2025 • Lauréane Giroud-LemaîtreAt a time when climate change is disrupting snow cover and social equilibrium in the mountains, ski resorts are having to rethink their business model. Between transition, diversification and citizen mobilization, what kind of future can we imagine for these emblematic areas? -

WeatherBlog 3 2025/26 | La Foliage and Climate Greening
11/12/2025 • Sebastian Müller & Michael StegerThere is no corresponding translation for the Italian term "la foliage": it describes the changing color of the leaves in autumn. In recent days or even weeks, the colorful foliage in the light-flooded treetops and under a blue sky has painted a picture-book Indian summer. Together, we will find out why the leaves are changing color, what this has to do with climate change and what the term "climate greening" means. Of course, we'll also take a look at further weather developments, which predict some snowfall at the end of the forecast period.
