Away from the manageable ski area on the Kitzsteinhorn, there are plenty of opportunities to escape the general tourist hustle and bustle on a tour. One variant leads via the Langwied area to the Tristkogel with a descent over the Dietersbachkar towards Piesendorf and a counter ascent to the Maiskogel.
Ascent
The starting point of the tour is the Häuslalm on the Langwiedboden at approx. 1970 m. You can get there either comfortably with the lifts of the Kitzsteinhorn or a little more strenuously on the ascent from the Wüstelau inn roughly along the summer trail.
After the "après-ski oasis" Häuslalm, you first walk a few meters in a northerly direction on the plain. At the first distinctive, deep trench, the ascent towards the Tristkogel begins in the moderately steep terrain of the Langwiedboden. In safe conditions, there is usually already at least one ascent track there.
Descent
From the Tristkogel, ski a few meters back over its summit slope along the ascent track and then cross in a northerly direction either in the Bambachkopf area or further down between Bambachkopf and Stangenhöhe into Diestersbachkar. In the Dietersbachtkar, always keep relatively far to the left and from the Steinkaralm ski to the left of the large trench roughly along the summer trail towards Erlach Grundalm. At approx. 1400 m, keep right and ascend towards the Maiskogel to the Unterbergalm, also along the summer trail (alternatively, you can continue downhill towards Piesendorf). From the Unterbergalm, cross the forest path to the Maiskogel ski area without any loss of altitude and ski down to Kaprun. From Kaprun, you can take the ski bus back to the Kitzsteinhorn parking lot or to Wüstelau.
Information
Difficulty (5-level scale): ***
Special dangers: In spring, the snow on the sunlit slopes of the Langwied area quickly becomes very soft. Caution is advised on the descent, especially in the lower section at the level of the trench: You cross several avalanche tracks and the terrain is relatively steep. The ascent in the opposite direction is often at least partially snow-free in spring. However, avalanches can occur spontaneously from the higher slopes if the temperatures are right. An early start is essential, especially in spring!
