Videos of the Week #11 2024/25 | Jib League Enters Round 3

Skiing from creative perspectives and short snowboard films - new perspectives, new impressions.

02/07/2025 by Hannes Hemper
Welcome to February, dear friends of snow sports! Snowfall brings joy to the whole world again after a dry January. Time to get inspired - with creative comp skiing, short films that capture the emotions of snow sports and a bit of learning material to round things off.

Video 1: JIB LEAGUE OPEN || S03 EP01

This time of the season is finally back! The Jib League, currently probably the most exciting competition on the ski park scene, is entering its third round. First stop: Innsbruck - Muttereralm. The park there has only existed since last season and is already making a name for itself - thanks to motivated shapers and a breathtaking view of the sunset, a refreshing innovation.

Behind the Jib League are James "Woodsy" Woods, Ferdinand Dahl and Øystein Bråten. This year, they are increasingly focussing on Open Events, which means that anyone who signs up can take part! Within two days, 20 riders will be selected from over 80 to make it into the Pro Session.

Woodsy's aim is to offer new riders a stage - especially those who have not yet made it into the competition scene or who lack the necessary budget. The Jib League should be a place where they can present their individual style.

I'm really pleased that this concept is catching on and is slowly establishing itself as an integral part of the scene. Riders like Jake Mageau, Tito Jenkins and Joona Kangas are given a platform here to celebrate their art on skis.

Video 2: PHASE 001 - 18 days in skiing the Alps von Nico Porteous

Nico and Chris Maunsell launch this new series of short films, in which they summarise 18 days of the season.

If you don't know Nico - mhmm, Golden Boy, Pipe God and since the last two years increasingly seen in solo film projects. Look forward to first-class material from the New Zealander!

Video 3: Lisa Zimmermann | Brain Bucket | Newschoolers Originals S03 E02

I've already introduced you to Newschoolers Originals in the past - short park edits in old-school style, perfect for binge-watching and imitating tricks.

Lisa is fully back in the ski world and travelling a lot on rails. Newschoolers asked her if she would like to do a small film project instead of her usual social media posts - here's the result!

Video 4: Lucas Cornillat - Reflect of Passion

Lucas filmed a short edit at his home resort of Flaine, France last month. The Frenchman is a former Competition rider and is sponsored by Salomon.

I was particularly impressed that the soundtrack is also from his own hand - from his band Strange. In addition to many natural hits, there are also a few beautifully soft landings to be seen.

Video 5: Figures of Motion von Jacob Callaghan

From Season EQPT comes a new artistic short film project by my favourite director, filmmaker and skier Jacob.

He loves skiing because it allows free expression - a way to show your own style the way you want to. Skiing allows you to experience feelings that you might not otherwise encounter so often. Jacob tries to capture precisely these emotions in his new project.

"Figures of Motion" - a film that moves.

Video 6: JAPOW - Come to Hokkaido/Japan with me! POV von Max Hitzig

Max had to pull out of the Freeride World Tour this season due to injury - after winning it last year. Exactly the right decision, I think! Instead, he's enjoying his success with Japow - and what could be better for him?

Super likeable and a really nice vlog!

Video 7: 1000skis - THE VISUAL LOUNGE 3 - Park skiing in Copper

"The Lounge" is a project by 1000 Skis that is perfect for enjoying with your morning coffee before skiing.

Magnus Granér and Theo Thorén show relaxed park skiing in Copper - very cosy and simply beautiful to watch. The Swerve King and Theo, a new generation of park skiers, in top form!

Video 8: Strike – Mary Rand

Mary moves from the East Coast Rails to the Northwest Backcountry Cliffs - and is currently one of the most exciting women in the backcountry.

One small difference to her old street videos: in 2024, she travelled to Japan, Mt Baker and Alaska. The same route as many pro athletes - but Mary's own touch still makes it captivating!

Video 9: Behind the Scenes of Avalanche Forecasting - FIFTY+ Bonus Episode

Everyone's favourite backcountry touring dad, Cody, presents an extra bonus episode on avalanche forecasting.

To round off the video presentation, here's something educational. Stay safe out there and have a great weekend!
