Videos of the Week #18 2025/26 | Vicinity

Up Close with the Mountains

03/06/2026
Hannes Hemper
March ushers in spring - and to match, here's my favorite short film by Finn Bilous, which has just been released. We also go snow camping in the Swiss Alps and Manu Bernard presents his unique style of season recap in pure, simple art. The full review of the Nines is online with breathtaking footage and we get exciting insights into the development of a new Armada snowboard.

Video 1: VICINITY by Manu Bernard

Mhmm, what a treat! Directed and edited by Manu himself, with music by his friend Rory. The video takes you into Manu's world - his approach to a season edit is elevated here with charm and simplicity to something really beautiful. The tail-to-nose drop in particular is so subtly cool.

Rider: Manu Bernard

Video 2: Arc'teryx Presents: Elsewhere

A trip into the silence, away from the norms - into the vastness of the Swiss Alps. Snow camping and tours away from the crowds. Nature shows its most beautiful side in peace and quiet. A wonderful film by Loïc and Max Kroneck, known from several films such as Balkan Express - perhaps their best to date. We are accompanied by Noémie and Edgar as skiers who enjoy the world of camping to the full. The atmosphere in the snowy landscape is simply magical.

Riders: Noémie Equy, Edgar Cheylus, Max Kroneck and Loïc Isliker

Video 3: White Noise - Finn Bilous

A classic, I can almost say. Finally the re-upload after Quiksilver deleted almost all his content. Finn on his favorite run in Treble Cone, New Zealand. On a self-painted Revolt 104 with fishtail he styled only with raw sounds - a pure pleasure. The video makes me really excited for spring every time.

Rider: Finn Bilous

Video 4: BEGGAR'S END - Hans Wiener

What a video part! Entirely in the style of a "snow hobbit" - inspired by drawings from The Hobbit. A continuation of his part from Ornada, the Armada team movie. Hans combines new school and old school like no other. Exciting film perspectives meet an impressive list of tricks. And of course: lots of charm, typical Hans.

Rider: Hans Wiener

Video 5: SWATCH NINES SNOW 2025 - The Full Story

"The world's biggest rope tow park, I reckon." - Luca Herrington

Just in time for the next Nines in Japan in April, here's the full review of last year's event. An event that focuses on both filmmakers and riders - it's not just about any contest, it's about the best shots, clips, community and fun on the coolest setups ever. Since last season, Sami Ortlieb has been the creative mastermind, also behind the Salomon Depart and involved in the course design. Nico, the mastermind behind the Nines and former German freestyler, has created one of the coolest and longest-lasting events in the ski and snowboard scene, which is deliberately not structured as a classic contest.

Video 6: Switzerland 2026 - Harlaut Apparel Co.

The Harlaut gang styles through the Swiss streets and parks. Two minutes of striking style and riding. Nice to see how a team are friends and not just share the same sponsors.

Riders: Ez Pvnda, Valentin Morel, Eirik Moberg, Sleepy Grill, Gilles Tinguely, Oscar Harlaut

Video 7: Nothing Quite Like Snowboarding - Baldface Lodge

Spencer is on the road in Nelson, BC. The gang spends two days in Whitewater before taking a helicopter to Baldface Lodge. Snowboard follocams and guest takeovers make the video particularly exciting. In Spencer's words:

"We had the chance to work with Chad Otterstrom during his Mint Tours week at Baldface Lodge - the same company we traveled with in Japan. Mint Tours organizes snowboard trips all over the world. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to film much of the second run myself, but Dustin Lalik, the legendary Baldface photographer and video wizard, together with Brandon and Chad, instructed us perfectly on the phones."

Riders: Spencer O'Brien, Brandon, Chad O., and the master Dustin Lalik

Video 8: Behind the Board | Stefi Luxton x Armada Do-Si-Do Snowboard

Stefi Luxton spent her 2025 snowboard season in the lab with Armada's board engineers to develop the perfect "do-everything" snowboard. The insight into the thought process behind the shape and design is particularly exciting - the involvement of the athletes is especially nice to see with a new brand.

Rider: Stefi Luxton

Video 9: OPPORTUNITY | 2026 Winter Cinematography - Etienne Surrette

A short film in which Etienne demonstrates his new art behind the camera and editing. I love his style and aesthetics - from the fade-in writing at the beginning to the clip selection. I hope he gets the opportunity to produce more.

Video 10: Hokumon - Episode 02 | Shuhei Sato, Keisuke Yoshida / Cheeba Films

The Japanese team style through the powder on their boards. In this vlog-style video we see them using features, doing tricks and staking each other. A great crew - definitely makes you jealous!

Riders: Shuhei Sato, Keisuke Yoshida, Kohei Kudo, Kazuki Kokubo and Satoru Chiba

Video 11: Why are there so many avalanche accidents this winter? | How the avalanche situation report is created

As a digital medium, we strive to explain alpine dangers and raise awareness. That's why this video is perfect: It shows why our snow cover in the Alps is so unstable this season and how the avalanche situation report is created.

Contest of the week: Replay | 2026 Nendaz Freeride Challenger

Since the FWT in Georgia and Kühtai was canceled, where only two runs could be tried, the Nendaz Freeride Challenger was an exciting alternative. Ben Richards' Transfer Air was still pretty cool in Kühtai. The Challengers are just as exciting, and the riders are at a comparable level, they just haven't qualified yet. Maxime Chabloz is even a former FWT champion who finally managed to land a competition run again after 708 days - as he said himself - and deserved to win.
