Videos of the Week #6 2025/26 | Farming Turns

Sustainable ways to enjoy winter sports

11/28/2025
Hannes Hemper
This week, Chris Rubens takes us to his organic farm and gives us an insight into his life as a farmer alongside his skiing career. We also travel to Uzbekistan with Arthur Longo and meet Mike Hornbeck, who shows us the special bond between father and son while skiing.

Video 1: FARMING TURNS | FULL MOVIE by Chris Rubens

Chris Rubens lived the dream of being a professional skier for many years and traveled around the world to do so. However, a trip to Greenland finally opened his eyes - he decided to radically change course and even risked his career. His new way of life: his own organic farm. Growing his own crops, providing for himself and skiing in winter.

The film shows that there is a more sustainable lifestyle for him than the one he led before. I think it's an exciting insight for many people: As a farmer, you have more time for your hobby in the winter and can focus on provisioning and growing in the spring and summer - a natural rhythm that makes the most of the seasons.

Riders: Chris Rubens, Jesse Johnston-Hill, Huxley Rubens, Eric Hjoleifson, Greg Hill and Kevin Hjertaas

Video 2: BURN PILE | Full Film by Joey Kraft

A compilation of the '25 season sounds unspectacular at first - but this film is incredibly well made. Joey Kraft has been active in the scene for a few years and now also films for big brands such as Head and Salomon. Burn Pile is very humorous, creative and, in my opinion, absolutely worthy of an award.

The skits pick up on themes of the changing ski industry, in which some riders function more as "content brands". The film is aimed at all those who would do exactly the same without sponsors or money - simply because they love skiing.

Riders: Adam Murray, Tristan Underhill, Jake Sandstrom, Will Fossum, Shonny Charbonneau, Benny Smith, Ethan Swadburg, Jacob Belanger, Chase Ujejski, Anders Ujejski, Luke SmartDan Beamish, Sergei Sirotov, Fletcher Smith, Teal Harle, Zoe Blewitt, Etienne Gagnon, Sam Tuff, Josephine Howell, Marcus Murray, Gregor Fair, Meg Cumming, Orion Humphreys and more

Video 3: SNITCH - LINE Skis in Sapporo by Jake Strassman

Sapporo, venue of the '72 Olympics, is home to some of Japan's best street skiers. The LINE team delivers creative spots here, and Andy Parry shows once again that he is a true rail wizard - with fancy tricks and his signature style. Ramen and friends are always a good combination anyway, and Jake Strassman provides strong images and creative perspectives behind the camera.

Riders: Mitchell Brower, Shiori Takahashi, Pete Koukov, Andy Parry, Reagan Wallis, Kevin Salonius & Will Wesson.

Video 4: Japan's Hidden Powder Heaven - Freeriding Minamiuonuma by Mikko-Pekka Karlin

As a professional snowboarder, you are by no means a guide. To find good lines, you have to work together as a team and see how the crew works in difficult situations. He freerided on Minamiuonuma - only an hour and a half from Tokyo, but more difficult to access than Hokkaido.

Antti's films always carry a message, show culture, friendships and his very own view of the mountains. The Finn has been splitboarding in Japan for many years, and I love following his stories.

Riders: Antti Autti, Takumi Nagai

Video 5: The Golden Road to Samarkand by Wasted Talent

Uzbekistan is probably not the first place on the list when planning a snowboard trip - but the two riders Arthur and Parker set off to a region that is still strongly influenced by its Soviet heritage. Architectural relics, interesting old lifts and a completely different culture, far removed from the western ski and snowboard scene, make this adventure particularly exciting.

Rider: Arthur Longo & Parker Zoom

Video 6: No Snow No Show by White Hornet Productions

The man behind the project is Simon Koslowski, also known to many as Floeki. I know him quite well myself - over the last few winters we've been out in the mountains together time and again. Despite the lack of snow in the Alps, there were a few good kicker sessions and, above all, a lot of fun.

Simon nevertheless interviewed the riders and captured their thoughts on the current situation. Having worked in the industry and behind the camera for many years, he has really developed his skills - the footage is visually compelling and the editing is really well executed. Thanks for the video!

Rider: Friends

Video 7: Snowboarding and Ecology ? Still not matching - Low TV Season 2 - Kickoff with Shredetik

As can be seen in the previous video, winters in Europe are no longer the same and it is becoming increasingly difficult to live the snowboarding lifestyle we are used to. In this clip, which is only three minutes long, a few approaches are shown on how to reduce your ecological footprint when snowboarding. The project is supported by Protect Our Winters and is the second episode of the series.

Riders: Mathieu Crepel, John Sebastian and Maisie Hill

Video 8: WHEN I GROW UP - A visual snowboarding journey with Mat Crepel from top to bottom by Alex Heitler.

Mathieu Crepel has released another film in collaboration with Oxbow, which initially went a little under my radar - but resurfaced when I was researching the last video and really won me over. When I Grow Up is a beautiful visual journey from the top to the bottom of the mountain. Couloirs, lines, jumps, sidehits and even a pond skim segment at the end - riding over a lake in spring. An all-round successful mix of style, ambience and strong images.

Rider: Mathieu Crepel

Video 9: "Still North" Shuhei Sato / CheebaFilms

What a vibe. Japanese powder turns, stylish tricks and even a bit of superpipe riding - the film takes you into a small world of its own in the north of Japan. Atmospheric, playful and full of flow.

Rider: Shuhei Sato

Video 10: Pure Cuts | Cut 2 by Arc'teryx

A video only two minutes long that - as the name suggests - shows "cuts": raw, uncut parts of the descent. A cool concept to present the pure ski or snowboard flow. The two riders ski the Aiguille du Plan and the Aiguille de Blaitière, abseil down and enjoy really good conditions - minimally staged, maximally authentic.

Riders: Max Kroneck and Loïc Isliker

Video 11: WREBIRTH: A father & son ski film starring Mike Hornbeck.

Mike Hornbeck begins a new chapter in his life: passing skiing on to his son. After a long, very formative career in the ski scene, Hornbeck increasingly retreats to Michigan. There he is now showing his son how to ski. The bond between them is very special - anyone who has grown up in a similar way knows what that means. Even if you weren't lucky enough to ski at a young age, it's a reminder to share the sport with your kids and pass on those fun-filled moments.

Rider: Mike Hornbeck and his son

Video 12: fancy pant by Capeesh

With this video, we delve into the fashion world of the ski scene. A short, funny edit with Ferdi and Dani B presenting a new collection - accompanied by humorous skits. Definitely put a smile on my face.

Riders: Ferdinand Dahl and Daniel Bacher

Video 13: We made a 1000 | Haglöfs Collab

The group of friends The Bunch launched their own ski brand five years ago and are one of the coolest companies on the scene when it comes to community. In addition to many other collaborations, there is now also an outfit consisting of a bib and jacket - simple, well-cut and stylish. I'm happy to see how brands involve riders with a creative background and know-how to design cool garments.

Riders: Pär Hägglund (peyben), Magnus Granier (skimanguy)

Video 14: Building the all new K2 Sky Pilot w/ Sage Kotsenburg & J Stone

Sage Kotsenburg is here in the workshop in Seattle, which I also visited this year. A cool insight into the complete production of a snowboard - especially interesting for those who have never seen the process before. He is guided by snowboard engineer Justin Clark, also known as J Stone.

Riders: Sage Kotsenburg and Justin Clark
