Videos of the Week #9 2024/25 | Freeskier of the Year, SLVSH & X Games

A tribute to Joona, French film projects, and a psychedelic snowboarding journey!

01/23/2025
Hannes Hemper
In the ninth edition of Videos of the Week, we celebrate Joona, the well-deserved 'Freeskier of the Year,' and take a look at creative film projects from the French Freeski team. We also join Torstein Horgmo on a psychedelic snowboarding journey through Baldface and Japan. On the competition side, we finally have fresh new Games of SLVSH, and the X Games kicked off with its first day full of exciting action. A week full of highlights for all Freeski and Snowboard fans!

Video 1: J Dubski by Capeesh featuring Joona Kangas

In celebration of his well-deserved 'Skier of the Year' title by New Schoolers: one minute of pure style from Joona at the Jossi Wells Invitational in New Zealand. This year, Joona not only delivered, in my opinion, the film of the year Keesh 3, but also let his actions in the park speak louder than his words. The king of single spins and flips, as well as incomparable butters.

Video 2: The Perfect Winter For Lalo Rambaud | TRIANGLE FULL MOVIE

Lalo takes the reins as the director of his first major solo short film. For the Frenchie, the past season was the best of his career: Jackson Hole with Tim Durtschi, as well as Gressoney and Balme in Italy, offered him perfect snow, spectacular turns, and impressive tricks. The music is a matter of taste, but through the editing, there’s also a touch of cinematic poetry.

Video 3: Counting to Three - Women’s World First | Megan Oldham

Megan has been a true powerhouse since she was little – as her father says: 'Just go, go, go!' She has significantly shaped women’s freeskiing in recent years. Here’s a look at her background, training, the competition scene, and her journey to the Triple Cork. It may not be the most thrilling performance or the smoothest turn for everyone, but it is still an outstanding and remarkable achievement on her part.

Video 4: SLVSH || Dakota Connole vs. Kellan Baker

SLVSH is finally back! For those who don’t know, SLVSH is the brainchild of Olympic gold medalist Joss Christensen. Nowadays with the help of James 'Woodsy' Woods, he created an independent contest where two riders go head-to-head on a regular ski hill, playing a 'Game of SLVSH' – inspired by the well-known 'Game of Skate.' One rider sets a trick sequence, performs it, and the other has to replicate it. You can’t help but love it! And even if you’re not familiar with all the tricks, the videos make it easy to learn the terminology."

Video 5: DARK VOLCANO Mt. Hood Meadows Night Skiing

Hank Stowers captures another truly special atmosphere: nearly three minutes of freeride on a volcano – at night. Enjoy the small show from Season Eqpt rider Hank and let his unique performance inspire you.

Video 6: LES FROUZES - A Freeski movie by Movement x Portes du Soleil

The Tribe from Movement Skis showcases their talents in an impressive team movie – in the park, backcountry, and on the slopes. Stylish French riders with an extra flair that shines through even in the in-between scenes. Park rats, but definitely a visual treat!

Video 7: Breite Hose Nix Dahinter | A SKI MOVIE | Freeride nights Innsbruck winner

Local news from Innsbruck: Matthias Narr and four friends celebrate their movie debut – and win the Freeride Nights at Mustache with it. Good vibes, young talents, and a high send-factor make this film something fun to watch.

Video 8: RETURN | Full Movie

So much work has probably never been put into a snowboard film before. A massive production with enormous costs – but the result is simply overwhelming. A psychedelic journey with Torstein Horgmo, Charles Beckinsale, and Jeff Pensiero through Baldface in BC, Canada, and Japan, captured by Tim Manning and Gabriel Kocher. The intro alone will blow you away and keep you glued to the screen. Turn on good sound and let yourself be taken on this extraordinary journey!

Video 9: Men’s Ski Knuckle Huck: FULL COMPETITION | X Games Aspen 2025

Yesterday, X Games Kicked Off with Knuckle Huck for Men and Women, Women’s Big Air, and Men’s Superpipe.

Men’s Knuckle Huck
For the men, this time there were many new faces in the spotlight, many of whom we know from the Jib League. Mikkel BK made his debut in the event, as did Tormo Frostadt, who unfortunately broke his arm in the first run. Also joining was style icon Daniel Bacher from Stubai Valley. Dani B truly honored Henrik Harlaut with his impressive butters. Enjoy this half-hour where, for once, it’s not all about 'Spin to Win'!

Women’s Big Air
The Women's Big Air event presented a new format: Instead of evaluating the best spins to the left, right, and with style like last year, there was a Best Trick approach. Zoe once again showed her impressive skills, and other riders like Mia Brooks delivered style.
