The PowderGuide Team | Part 1

Business, editorial and gear review management

by PowderGuide 12/02/2023
New site, new look, new faces behind the facades. We would now like to introduce ourselves and offer you a look behind the scenes at PowderGuide. Who actually does what here?

Name:                                      Steffen

Field of activity:                    Gear of the week, marketing, caretaker, grievance box, amusement attendant, skier

Since:                              As a user for a long time, behind the scenes since approx. 2013

What connects you to PG and what do you associate with PG?

I'll go back to the beginning, when the internet didn't exist for us, Poacher's ski booklet was the ultimate and the two-metre Pommes gliders were moved through the deep fresh snow (there was no powder back then) without any idea of the white danger.

Those were wild, carefree and grandiose times, but also quite dangerous. I wish everyone who has the pleasure of experiencing this fresh snow/powder to do so in the safest way possible and in accordance with their personal risk management. We had no idea what we were doing, but it was (and still is) incredible fun. I'm involved with PowderGuide not to take the fun away from people, but to save them from dangers I wish I'd known about back then. Plus, we're a great team and have great readers.

What excites, interests or fascinates you?

I am fascinated by the mountains. In winter, the silence, the reduction, the lonely tracks in the snow, but also the joy of sharing with friends. The vastness, but also the steepness, uphill with muscle power, but also with the lift up and down until your legs don't want to go any more.

It makes me happy to see people enthusiastic about the mountains. People should go out into the mountains, to the sea, into nature, guided if necessary and in groups. They should see how beautiful it is out there and therefore also be willing and have the understanding to want to preserve the beauty. Everyone according to their possibilities. One person already understands that plastic packaging is not a fertiliser for alpine flora and another knows that toilet paper should be burnt or taken away after the big shop because cows prefer to eat plants.

So, go out and have fun 😊

Name:                                     Totti Lingott

Field of responsibility:                 Management, marketing, organisation, parcel packer, girl and boy for everything and planning of the new website

Since:                              2005

What connects you to PowderGuide and what do you associate with PowderGuide?

Like so many others, my passion for outdoor sports - in both winter and summer - brought me to PowderGuide. Initially, I contributed to the project by reporting on my own mountain adventures, but administrative tasks and, above all, marketing were soon added.

What excites, interests or fascinates you?

I am particularly fascinated by the independent  confrontation with the alpine dangers of mountain sports and accordingly I am also interested in the sophisticated reporting on PowderGuide.com. I prefer to be away from the crowds in high or not so high mountains or on the water.

Name:                                     Anna Klara Stang

Field of responsibility:                   Editorial director

Since:                               2023

What connects you to PowderGuide and what do you associate with PowderGuide?

I'm still a PowderGuide newbie and only joined this season. I'm responsible for editing and am actively supported by Lea and Toni. I found my way to Innsbruck and to geography via detours. I share a love of outdoor life and winter sports with the PG community and my urge to get outdoors can be found in many of the stories and articles here. It's in my nature to ask myself lots of questions and look for answers - be it in a social context or in the natural sciences.

What excites, interests or fascinates you?

I love everything that has something to do with water. Whether it's snow, ice, waves, underwater worlds or ice bathing. Water is my element and I dedicate large parts of my life to it. And I hope it stays that way!

Name:                                    Lea Hartl

Field of activity:                  WeatherBlog & Editorial, other

Being there since:                              approx. 15 years (??)

What connects you to PowderGuide and what do you associate with PowderGuide?

PowderGuide and I were both much younger when we met and have grown up a bit over the last 10-15 years. Mutual friends have introduced us to each other. The old friends have moved on and are now travelling elsewhere, but many new ones have joined us over time. After several years as editorial director for PG Magazine, I am now handing over this task to Klara with confidence, because I am also continuing to develop (despite no longer being quite so young) - just like powderguide.com! I will of course remain connected to PG and continue to write about weather and snow.

What do you associate with PowderGuide and what do you associate with PowderGuide?

Snow, ice, weather, people (in no particular order)

Name:                                      Lorenzo Rieg

Task area:                    Touring & (gear) reviews

Being there for:                              Almost 15 years

What connects you to PowderGuide and what do you associate with PowderGuide?

I can no longer say exactly how I ended up at PowderGuide. In any case, I was already involved with the (as far as I know) first PowderGuide website, but I really got into it when I switched to the second site - that's when I re-layouted numerous articles by hand. Soon after that I worked on two of the books (PowderGuide Die besten Freeridegebiete der Alpen and PowderGuide Tirol). On the website I have been taking care of articles that have to do with equipment (especially our detailed equipment tests) and tour descriptions for many years. I have also written many articles myself, especially in these areas. When the original PowderGuidler Tobi finally left about 5 years ago, I took over a few shares in PowderGuide and became a minority owner, so to speak.

Unfortunately, in the last few winters I've not only lacked the snow, but also the time to contribute to PowderGuide in the usual way - I hope both will improve again in the future!

What excites, interests or fascinates you?

The original background of PowderGuide, to make risk management and the necessary information usable and freely accessible, is simply a good thing. Even if the focus has now changed and we publish more general and weather information instead of safety articles.

Apart from that, I spend a lot of time on (touring) skis and I like to share my passion via PowderGuide.
