The onion principle is now familiar to everyone and has become an integral part of the world of outdoor clothing. Fleece is often used as a mid-layer, the insulating layer, as it is warming, lightweight and quick-drying. Today we present the Innomiata jacket from Mammut, a particularly warm mid-layer.
Test conditions
As an insulating layer for skiing and ski touring, but also for cycling to the office, whatever the weather. During cool evenings in the winter room but also at room temperature as a comfortable house jacket for relaxing.
I am 184 cm tall and wear the jacket in size L although it is a men's version. The sleeves are the right length for my size, the cut is more of the wider variety. Note to whom it may concern: the jacket is not figure-hugging in the upper body area, even large bust sizes can be accommodated easily and comfortably (although not in a figure-hugging way). The jacket can also be zipped into various Mammut hardshells (not those in the ski collection) as an additional insulation layer.
It should also be mentioned that the Innominata Jacket is made from recycled polyester and is bluesign®-certified, which is of course commendable (and unfortunately far from a matter of course for outdoor clothing).
Test
The Innominata Jacket is a long-sleeved fleece jacket without a hood. The Thermal-Pro material from Polartec ensures high thermal performance. Basically, there is not much else to say. The jacket is classic in color (black), as well as in fit and details.
In use, the Innomiata jacket shows its strength as an insulating layer on cold days, when the high thermal performance comes into play and you stay warm during the summit rest or in the chairlift even in uncomfortable conditions. The dense material is also quite wind-repellent, although of course not really windproof. Personally, however, the jacket is a little too bulky for me to take it with me as a mid-layer on longer tours, but if that doesn't bother you, you can of course take it with you on any kind of expedition as suggested by the manufacturer.
I have no doubts about the robustness of the jacket and the quality of the workmanship and material. Even after prolonged use and frequent washing, the jacket is still nice and fluffy and does not fluff.
Apart from that, I would emphasize that the jacket is not only suitable for outdoor activities, but can also be worn wonderfully at home on the couch or in the office. The two spacious zipped pockets are suitable for stowing important items such as wallets, keys and cell phones, and there is an inside pocket for even more important, smaller items.
