At PowderGuide, Lea Hartl is primarily concerned with weather and snow. She also does this outdoors on the mountain and in her job as a scientist.

WeatherBlog 8 2023/24 | Weather change!
Lea Hartl • 01/17/2024Over the last few days, the weather change has been slowly approaching, but now it's here. A succession of fronts will bring stormy, mild conditions with fresh snow (see PowderAlert) at high altitudes before things are expected to calm down again during the weekend. -

WeatherBlog 6 2023/24 | Weather change within reach
Lea Hartl • 01/03/2024The days of westerly weather are numbered. An Italian low is on the horizon for the weekend, which should bring cooling and a fairly widespread supply of snow. -

WeatherBlog 5 | Warm Christmas
Lea Hartl • 12/27/2023The mild westerly weather will continue for a few more days before it gets colder and more unsettled again, at least briefly, at the weekend. The outlook in the crystal ball is not overly wintry, with the westerly flow tending to stay with us. -

WeatherBlog 4 2023/24 | Pre-Christmas storm
Lea Hartl • 12/20/2023The Christmas weather is not showing its contemplative side this year, but is arriving with a decent storm and fresh snow. Friday and Saturday in particular are expected to be very inhospitable, with high wind speeds and lots of precipitation. The next report from our colleague Orakel won't be long in coming! -

WeatherBlog 2 2023/24 | Continued turbulence, rising temperatures
Lea Hartl • 12/06/2023It will remain varied. Today, Wednesday, it will snow again in many places in the north, while the sun will shine in the south. With temperatures rising, it will be quite friendly on Thursday and Friday. The next major disturbance is approaching at the weekend and is expected to bring a new round of storms and precipitation from Sunday. Unfortunately, it will probably rain at lower altitudes. -

WeatherBlog 1 2023/24 | Welcome to winter
Lea Hartl • 11/29/2023The WeatherBlog can also be found on the new PowderGuide website. It's high time, after all, the season has already been heralded twice by the PowderAlert! As usual, we will dedicate ourselves to the framework story for the PA and take a look at the general weather situation. Attention: At the end there is part 1 of a tutorial series on the new PG weather. -

WeatherBlog 21 2022/23 | Spring powder & end of season
Lea Hartl • 04/12/2023It's getting wintry again! What we missed in the height of winter will be delivered in April: With a bit of luck, we'll get a lot more fresh snow over the next few days, especially on the eastern main ridge. And with pretty low temperatures! -

WeatherBlog 20 2022/23 | Easter weather
Lea Hartl • 04/05/2023Shortly before Easter, the weather will be almost more wintry than at Christmas. It is and will remain relatively cool with a mix of sun and clouds and somewhat more unstable weather from Friday. The cool temperatures don't hide the poor snow conditions, but according to the WeatherBlog's subjective assessment, the snow quality has been significantly worse this season! -

WeatherBlog 18 2022/23 | Spring-like changeable
Lea Hartl • 03/22/2023Spring has arrived not only in terms of the calendar but also astronomically and in terms of skiing. The weather is correspondingly mild and increasingly unstable towards the end of the week, with "April weather" tendencies also in evidence. Maybe even colder with precipitation next week? Otherwise: Another IPCC report. The content is not surprising, but still important. -

WeatherBlog 17 2022/23 | Calm after the storm
Lea Hartl • 03/15/2023The series of alerts over the last few days has noticeably improved the previously miserable snow record in the west and brought at least a small refresh in the east. Now the weather is calming down. Over the next few days, the fresh snow can be inspected more closely with high pressure, very mild temperatures and probably plenty of sunshine. -

Gear Review | POC Dimension Avalanche Backpack
Lea Hartl • 03/10/2023With the Dimension Avalanche Backpack, POC now also has an airbag backpack in its programme. The well-known Alpride E2 system with supercapacitors is used, which in this case comes in a POC backpack. We took a closer look at the combination. -

WeatherBlog 16 2022/23 | Finally precipitation in the west
Lea Hartl • 03/08/2023The current PowderAlert is a rollercoaster of emotions. Fresh snow: great, finally! Especially in the Western Alps, where hardly anyone can remember such a dry winter. But the snow line bounces back and forth with every front. Will the meagre base in the mid-altitudes be washed away for good? In any case, the fresh snow is good for the glaciers and maybe there will be a ski touring spring in the high mountains after all?
