I'm a Bavarian who emigrated to Trieste and work for Powderguide as a meteorologist, developer of the PG-ICON weather and ski video specialist. Val Saisera is my favourite place for ski tours. I like to bake bread, apple strudel and Tortel-Frico.

PowderGuide-Map Tutorial | PowderGram
03/05/2026 • Sebastian MüllerThe PowderGram is our interpretation of a classic meteogram, with a focus on variables that are particularly relevant for freeriders and ski tourers. In the following, we will introduce you to the concept and all elements of the PowderGram. We are optimistic that this will convince even the last doubters of the PowderGram. -

The new PowderGuide map is live!
02/23/2026 • Sebastian Müller & Totti LingottiToday we are releasing our new PowderGuide-Map (PG-Map), which is now available at map.powderguide.com. In this article we present the basic principles and will provide more detailed information on all functions in further articles. The PG-Map will provide space for our weather forecasts (PG-ICON-Weather) as well as many other contents: ConditionsReports, editorial, locatable content and soon also tour tracks, SnowReports and other info from partner websites. We are very happy and grateful for the second generation of PG-ICON-Weather, which has reliably provided us with very accurate forecasts. But now we are ready, proud, excited and also relieved to bring the new PowderGuide-Map to the light of day. -

WeatherBlog 16 2025/26 | Large snowfalls across the Alps
02/18/2026 • Sebastian MüllerThe next north-westerly dust situation will snow on the northern slopes of the Alps and then spill over to the southern side of the Alps on Thursday. We notice that the polar vortex is favoring us and hope that it stays that way. Winter can begin and our new weather system is in the starting blocks. -

WeatherBlog 14 2025/26 | Favorable stratospheric conditions
02/04/2026 • Sebastian MüllerThis winter can already be classified as difficult due to the below-average snow conditions and especially because of the treacherous avalanche risk situation. But all good things come from above: A circulation upheaval is planned in the stratosphere, which could greatly favor the northern slopes of the Alps in terms of upstream flow. In view of the old snow problem, we remain defensive in our route selection and look into the crystal ball of the weather below. -

WeatherBlog 12 2025/26 | Oh, how beautiful is Kamchatka
01/21/2026 • Sebastian Müller & Michael StegerOnly the avalanche situation is more exciting than the weather. The dry early winter in the Austrian Alps is taking its revenge. A pronounced weak layer combined with wind and fresh snow has provoked a series of avalanche accidents and claimed several victims. Kamchatka was also badly hit, with huge snowdrifts burying homes and people. Europe is also facing a stormy week. Quo vadis 2026? -

WeatherBlog 10 2025/26 | The Beast from the East
01/06/2026 • Sebastian Müller & Michael StegerAt the beginning of the year, it's not just world events that are coming thick and fast, but also the weather. Winter has finally descended on Europe, is currently spreading deep into the Balkans and the next trough promises to bring large amounts of fresh snow to the northern slopes of the Alps as early as today. High pressure is prevailing over Greenland, however, and temperatures are very high. We therefore turn our attention last to the special role that Greenland and its ice sheet play in the global climate. -

WeatherBlog 6 2025/26 | Ommm... ega
12/10/2025 • Sebastian MüllerVarious WeatherBlogs, regulars' table discussions and powder oracles have already hinted at it and we confirm: the winter weather is over for now. The infamous Omega weather pattern is currently establishing itself over Central Europe and it is already getting noticeably warmer. Whether there will be a summery Christmas, how much rain could fall and what this has to do with the polar vortex is discussed below. For the Omega weather situation, we recommend that nervous freeriders take a meditative "Ommm", inhale deeply through the nose and exhale with the belly. We hope this will help regulate stress levels for the time being. -

WeatherBlog 3 2025/26 | La Foliage and Climate Greening
11/12/2025 • Sebastian Müller & Michael StegerThere is no corresponding translation for the Italian term "la foliage": it describes the changing color of the leaves in autumn. In recent days or even weeks, the colorful foliage in the light-flooded treetops and under a blue sky has painted a picture-book Indian summer. Together, we will find out why the leaves are changing color, what this has to do with climate change and what the term "climate greening" means. Of course, we'll also take a look at further weather developments, which predict some snowfall at the end of the forecast period. -

WeatherBlog 2 2025/26 | Onset of winter and explosive cyclones
10/29/2025 • Sebastian Müller & Michael StegerThe oracle has spoken and announced the temporary start of winter in the Alps. Yesterday was a powder day with bright sunshine, even though the north-westerly wind was blowing freshly around our ears in the summit regions. As indicated in the last WeatherBlog, the blocking high-pressure situation has disappeared and made way for westerly and north-westerly currents. Autumn storm "Joshua" also played a role in this. One of the strongest hurricanes since records began is raging in the Caribbean. "Melissa" has hit Jamaica and is moving on towards Cuba. -

10/15/2025 • Sebastian Müller & Michael StegerAutumn is showing its best side and with the mountain peaks already covered in sugar, the first winter feelings are starting to set in. The current fantastic weather and the prospect of snow next week motivate us to write our first WeatherBlog. -

WeatherBlog 23 2024/25 | sky is falling
04/16/2025 • Sebastian MüllerThe title and PowderAlert say it all: it's raining cats and dogs on the southern side of the Alps and a lot of snow is falling at high altitudes. We briefly discuss what a heavy precipitation event is and look at the current event in detail. Finally, we briefly recap the winter and bring the WeatherBlog season to a conditional close.
