Snow condition
Good snow conditions on the glacier for the time of year. Small to medium crevasses are reasonably filled with snow. The wind has formed some snow bridges. But I wouldn't trust it quite yet. Today we spent time on both the Rognon Glacier and the Glacier du Tour Noir in areas with few crevasses. 2 treacherous and large transverse crevasses Riders Right from Rognon are still quite open. But there are tracks across them... probably someone went over them with more speed than sense and was very lucky. Mountain turns in the north faces look surmountable. The Grands Montets valley run is stony, especially in the upper section - better to take the last gondola down.
Snow quality
In the untracked still very nice set powder. Sometimes a little windy. Rognon glacier already a bit rutted. There a mixture of grippy moguls and powder shreds. Above 2800 m, soapy powder can also be found on the southwest side. No crust so far. Pleasant to ski overall.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
Crevasses. Stones. Avalanches - little to hardly any signs, only very superficial drift snow cracks in the steep terrain close to the crest around the Aiguilles des Grands Montets. The avalanche warning level has dropped to 2 since Thursday. Main danger currently crevasse avalanches.
Overall impression
Conditions check in the Argentière basin: The Chevalier Couloir was skied in the Petite Aiguille Verte sector. Snow in the couloir looks passable but there is not much snow at the start. Several rope teams in the mixed tours Pepite and Brigite. Conditions still look pretty dry. The north faces in the Argentiere basin still have a lot of bare ice due to the season. At the moment, the high cols such as the Col d'Argentière are rewarding for skiers, with descents in powder that is only slightly affected by the wind. The Rive Gauche exit from the glacier basin is a bit of a mess. Not all the ice blocks and stones are snowed in yet. It's better to climb up onto the glacier again from the halfway point and ski straight out than to get into the steep, icy and rocky terrain on the left edge.
