Arc'teryx Academy: Introduction to freeride snowboarding

Focus on foundational skills, including basic techniques, and safety knowledge. Participants will learn to navigate off-piste slopes in varying snow conditions in a safe and controlled manner

This clinic is about adapting your on-piste snowboarding skills for your first turns on ungroomed terrain. You'll get technical tips as well as insights into risk management, so you can build confidence and knowledge to take your riding to the next level in the backcountry.

  • Frequency: Course takes place on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (booking required)

Learning objectives

  • Focus on basic techniques and safety on the mountain. Participants learn to move safely and in a controlled manner in unprepared terrain.

Equipment

  • Ski pass

  • Snowboard

  • Binding

  • Snowboard boots

  • Sufficiently warm clothing for a day on the mountain - temperatures below 0 °C are to be expected

  • Jacket, trousers, midlayer & Baselayer

  • Helmet

  • Gloves

  • Backpack* with:
    Avalanche probe
    LVS
    Avalanche shovel (metal)

    *Avalanche airbag backpacks are recommended but not mandatory

Skill level

  • This course is aimed at participants who are going into unprepared terrain for the first or second time. The prerequisite is safe snowboarding on black slopes, with a focus on developing self-confidence and control. Steep slopes in unprepared terrain in different snow conditions will be covered.


Costs

  • €190**

**The ski pass is not included in the course price and must be purchased directly from the ski resort. We recommend doing this in advance to avoid queues.
