Arc'teryx Academy: Introduction to splitboarding

Introduction to touring techniques, equipment usage, and safety protocols. Participants will gain essential knowledge for their first touring experiences.

In this introductory clinic, you'll get a first taste of what it's like to earn your turns. Begining with an overview of all the necessary gear, you'll progress to learning efficient walking techniques while "on tour." Then, enjoy the elevation you gained during your ascent by riding back down.

Learning objectives

  • Introduction to touring techniques, equipment use and safe behaviour. Participants learn basic knowledge for their first touring experiences.

Equipment

  • Ski pass

  • Splitboard, skins, poles, touring bindings, snowboard boots

  • Suitable clothing in which you can spend a day on the mountain (expect sub-zero temperatures): Jacket, trousers, midlayer & functional underwear

  • Helmet

  • Backpack* including: avalanche probe
    Avalanche transceiver (LVS)
    Avalanche shovel (metal)

    *Avalanche airbag backpacks are recommended but not essential

Skill level

This course is aimed at participants who are undertaking a splitboard tour for the first or second time. Participants should be able to ascend with touring skis on skins for about two hours (600 vertical metres). The descents require safe and controlled skiing in unprepared terrain in different snow conditions. Experience in unprepared terrain is an advantage.

**The ski pass is not included in the course price and must be purchased directly from the ski resort. We recommend doing this in advance to avoid queues.
