PowderAlert 12 2023 /24 | Infinite Südstau I
Lars Oelmann • 03/26/2024As in the age-old internet meme, Ullr asked someone how many Südstau he should send and everyone just shouted YES! And so it comes as it must. There's another Südstau and then another one or two during the weekend. Is that good? Yes and no. This one is great. Nice amounts and a good snow line. The one at the weekend will be tropically warm with 25 degrees in the north and rain above 2000 metres in the lift. And you'll hardly be able to enjoy this one, as it'll only clear up briefly and then it'll get really warm. -

Gear of the week | Wellies
Klara Stang • 03/24/2024Time-tested and yet underestimated. Wellies have been around in Europe since around 1850, ten years after the Briton Charles Goodyear discovered "rubber" made from plasticised rubber mixed with sulphur and carbon black. Since then, they have not only been a favourite shoes for anglers and children, but also for many Japanese people on Hokkaido. -

ContestHappening Inside | Freeride World Tour
Pascal Schindler • 03/21/2024At the first stop of the finals, I had the opportunity to accompany the Freeride World Tour in Fieberbrunn and not only see the surface of a contest, but also get to know the people behind it. The entire organisational team, all the riders and some of the support staff spend the week of the weather window together in the hotel. The team does a lot of work and discusses details of the competition late into the evening. The dinners with the riders and staff have shown me that there is a very friendly relationship between the participants and the organisers. -

WeatherBlog 17 2023/24 | Fresh precipitation and a hot Atlantic
Sebastian Müller • 03/20/2024My last weather blog had the honour of announcing a winter comeback, and this time at least I don't have to proclaim the end of winter. A lot is falling from the sky across the Alps again, and at least in high Alpine locations you can expect an improvement in the snow conditions and some powder. For lovers of apocalyptic news, we also have the finest entertainment: the Atlantic is boiling! -

ContestHappening 5 2023/24 | Fieberbrunn Pro
Pascal Schindler • 03/19/2024At the fourth stop of the Freeride World Tour, riders can expect the face of the Wildseeloder in difficult snow conditions. The expected 20 cm of fresh snow overnight turns into 1 cm and the slope is frozen, especially at lower altitudes, due to the previous period of warm weather. On the day of the competition, however, the sun shone brightly and spurred on all participants. Victor De Le Rue, once again in first place, secured the title in the men's snowboard category. Canadian Erin Sauve came out on top in the women's category. Frenchwoman Astrid Cheylus and New Zealander Ben Richards came first on skis. -

Snow of Tomorrow | Mountainsports for Everyone
Martin Svejkovsky • 03/18/2024Education is one of the most important factors in driving social change towards a more sustainable and increasingly fair world. For this reason, Protect Our Winters Austria organises a variety of different climate workshops that are adapted to the respective target group. With the "Mountainsports for Everyone" project, POW Austria has set itself the goal of providing children and young people who normally have little or no connection to mountain sports with low-threshold access to climbing, mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding. At the same time, important knowledge and an awareness of the climate crisis was imparted to them through age-appropriate climate workshops. -
