The new Panico ski touring guide "Tux and Zillertal Alps" by Markus Stadler presents numerous ski tours from the Tux and Zillertal Alps. The tours presented are as different as the two mountain groups themselves. They range from leisurely ski tours close to the slopes in Hochfügen to classic day tours in the Tux Alps, a popular region for ski tourers, to high-alpine climbs, some lasting several days, to the glacier giants of the Zillertal Alps.
Nearly 200 tours, 150 destinations
The 348-page guide contains information on over 150 destinations (summits and huts), many of which can be reached from several starting points. In total, there are almost 200 tours described - you will be hard pressed to find a more comprehensive ski touring guide for the region!
In order to make the whole thing clearer, the tours are divided into individual areas, such as Hochfügen, Tuxer Tal or Zemmgrund. A schematic map is included for each area, which cannot replace a topographical map, but makes it quicker to find the tour on such a map and also quickly shows how the tours are arranged in an area. The latter is particularly interesting if you want to spend several days in a region (or in one of the huts described). For each tour there is of course a detailed description of the ascent and descent. In addition to the usual information on route finding and particular danger spots, the text often includes helpful comments on the typical snow distribution in the area and the frequency with which a tour is undertaken. For each tour there are summarized key points on the starting point, altitude and avalanche risk.
