ISPO 2021 | PartnerNews

The PG Partner collection of new products for next season

by Totti Lingott 02/16/2021
Last year was a bit special and unfortunately, for the first time in PG's history, we didn't have the opportunity to meet our partners directly at ISPO. Nevertheless, we caught up with our partners to get information on new products and highlights for the 2021/22 season and to give you a small and fine insight into the new products for the next powder season. The general trend towards sustainability is unbroken - please read the details!

Advenate - design your own jacket and keep it dry

Advenate had to postpone the production and market launch of avalanche backpacks until 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the meantime, the promising SYMPHONY bike backpacks have been presented. These are characterized by ergonomically comfortable carrying and a variable payload volume. The basic sizes are 8, 18 and 25 liters, which can be expanded by 2+4, 2+6 and 4+6 liters respectively.

The textile market will also be tackled next autumn! The first self-designable 3-layer combo (My.one) will be in stores this fall and has already won a Gold Award at the ISPO. Equipped with the wind-, water- and dirt-repellent Schoeller Nanosphere impregnation, the jacket and trousers are particularly robust and durable. The c_change membrane ensures high breathability. It works in a similar way to a pine cone: it opens its pores when it is warm and closes again when it gets colder. Advenate is committed to sustainability, produces in Germany and offers an unusual five-year guarantee on its jackets, which have been awarded the bluesign certificate for sustainable products.

Bergans - Durable, easy to repair and definitely no more freezing

The Norwegians at Bergans have been and continue to be pioneers in innovative, sustainable textile equipment. For example, the entire STRANDA V2 collection is made from a yarn that consists of 100% recycled polyester. Dyeing using the SpinDye process eliminates the majority of chemicals and uses significantly less water and energy - all of which results in a much smaller footprint. In addition, the further development of the tried-and-tested STRANDA V2 anorak has ensured that the product is as durable as possible. In addition to quality, attention has now also been paid to a design that makes it easy to repair damage (design to repair). A few key features of the anorak: very high collar protects against harsh Scandinavian weather; ventilation zippers under the arms ensure a draught when touring; insulated pocket ensures a ready-to-use smartphone; and everything is enclosed in a windproof and waterproof yet breathable membrane.

Dynafit - More comfort and less weight, which speaks for all-round

As is well known, the well-known freerider Eric Hjorleifson has been involved in the development of Dynafit products for a few years now. It was not to be expected that he would only work on ascent-oriented products. Dynafit already knew how to climb. In the meantime, the boots with the then newly developed Hoji lock system in particular have made a name for themselves as all-rounders and downhill-oriented touring boots. Next winter, the RADICAL PRO (successor to the Hoji Pro Tour, here the PG review of last year's Hoji Free) will be a further development. The aim was to achieve more comfort for the ascent and therefore also for the descent by reducing the weight (1,380 g) and maintaining the same stability. To achieve this, a new boot fitting concept and an optimized tongue construction were used. A new, particularly comfortable (thermo-adjustable) inner boot and a shell that allows 60° shaft rotation on the ascent are used. Of course, the RADICAL PRO also relies on the tried-and-tested Hoji-Lock system, which can be operated using the third, upper buckle. The boot will be available in men's and women's versions and the product guarantee will now be extended to five years instead of the usual two years, which corresponds to the theoretical lifespan of a touring boot. The result is a real all-rounder that will hopefully soon be put to the merciless PG test.

Fritschi Swiss - reworking the good, yes that lasts for a long time

The Swiss designers at Fritschi Swiss (formerly Diamir) have focused on reworking the product range. They have taken a step in the right direction, particularly in terms of durability and stability. The TECTON now comes with a revised front and heel housing. Carbon reinforced plastics have been used to transfer power even more directly and without loss from the boot to the ski. Depending on requirements, components made of hardened steel, forged aluminum and various metal alloys are used, as well as carbon or fiberglass-reinforced plastics. This achieves the same level of safety as an alpine binding and a contemporary durability. Click here for the PG short test and the long-term gear review of last year's models.

Genuine Guide Gear (G3) - Never miss a mountain in winter or summer with lightweight gear

The makers of G3 specialize in the production of durable mountaineering equipment - mainly for winter mountaineering with one or two boards. For next summer, they are now launching their successful small and handy Pivot pole as a hiking pole. The PIVOT TREK impresses with its low weight (297 g) and small pack size, but also with an innovative, magnetic closure. Essential for the summer are the magnetic plates, which can be changed easily.

Small pack size and low weight (between 241 and 275 g) are also the decisive arguments for the SPLITTBOARD LT SKIN. The innovative tip and tail attachment system reduces both considerably, allowing the skins to be rolled up into a small roll. As with all splitboard skins from G3, only one side needs to be adapted to the respective board (one is already prefabricated). As with all G3 skins, there is a version with particularly high grip for steep climbs and a version that is perfectly matched to grip and glide properties or weight and durability.

Julbo - See through better and enjoy universal winter-summer protection

Julbo, as a specialist in self-tinting lenses, has expanded its range with two new lens colors (pink and green) in the REACTIVE Glare Control series. The Glare Control filter, which neutralizes up to 55% of light reflections, is now available in both the REACTIVE and SPECTRON lines. The filter helps to reduce unpleasant stray light and ensures sharper vision and visual comfort. The red tint also enhances contrast.

The new technology is also used in the two new women's ski goggles DESTINY and ELLIPSE. The DESTINY will be available from around 145 euros and is equipped with the REACTIVE lens. A spherical double lens guarantees optimum vision. Naturally, the lenses and straps are available in different colors. The ELLIPSE model will be on the market from around 80 euros and the classic, feminine style is supported by flowing lines without corners or edges.

The new THE PEAK LT helmet combines the world of skiing with that of mountain sports, says Vivian Bruchez. This means that it covers an enormously wide range of uses and meets the standard both as a ski helmet and as a climbing helmet. The helmet weighs 360 g in winter mode and 322 g in the slimmed-down spring version. Various ventilation openings and loops for the headlamp make the helmet perfect for a day on the mountain, in summer and winter. The helmet will be available from around 175 euros.

La Sportiva - biomass in five years and with 130 flex for descending the mountain

Sustainability is once again La Sportiva's top priority for the coming season. AMNI SOUL ECO is used for all base layers. This is a polyamide yarn which, thanks to its molecular composition, is very quickly degradable in biomass and biogas in a record time of just five years. In collaboration with the Italian company Minardi Piume, the Deimos, Titan and Atlas down jackets are made exclusively from 100% recycled down (with a fill power of 700+ cuin (P.U.R.E. Recycled Down).

The (Free) touring boot VANGUARD was developed for ambitious ski tourers. The shell is made from castor oil-based plastic (Pebax) and weighs just 1,450 grams. The heart of the new boot is the shaft construction. This consists of two asymmetrically opening halves and offers a rotation range of 63°. This makes it extremely easy to get into the shoe. In the men's version, the upper is reinforced with carbon (Flex 130), while the women's model is reinforced with fiberglass (Flex 115). The EZ Flex™ dual tongue, consisting of a softer and a stiffer element, ensures sufficient freedom of movement on the ascent and optimum power transmission on the descent.

Mammut - Transport more moisture and benefit greatly from it

The Swiss product developers at Mammut are focusing fully on ski touring textiles for next season and are improving the AENERGY line (hardshell and midlayer) in particular. The Aenergy Air HS Hooded jacket and pants combine nano-fiber technology with a microporous membrane and thus offer the best protection against wind and weather. Nevertheless, the material allows air to pass through in a pleasantly active manner. This results in a comfortable body climate - especially on sweaty ascents - and the high abrasion resistance known from hardshells. Thanks to the stretch used, the jacket feels more like a softshell in terms of comfort, but has the same properties as a classic hardshell jacket. The jackets have large breast pockets (suitable for climbing skins) and long ventilation zippers. The latter also applies to the pants, which also have matching pockets for avalanche transceivers.

For the mid-layers, such as the Aenergy MLHybrid Hooded Jacket, Mammut relies on hybrid fleece textiles, i.e. the combination of two different Polartech materials, which provide the optimum ratio of warmth and moisture transport through clever mapping. Recycled and natural materials are also used here. For women, more of the warming fleece is used in key areas.

Mons Royale - Merino flex and sustainability takes the sheep far

Mons Royale continues to combine sustainable, highly functional merino wool with style to inspire a life of action and adventure in the mountains. A good example of this is the new Cascade series with MERINO FLEX. It combines the warmth of merino wool with 4-way stretch for a comfortable feel during all outdoor activities. Cascade is designed to keep its shape as a durable base layer, no matter how you express yourself on the mountain. The rich and earthy colors, mixed with pop colors and all-over prints, are a key theme in the base layer collection, which is available in three different fabric weights: 140, 200, and 250g. From 100% merino (Yotei) to different types of merino blends. Mons Royale is a proud partner of ZQ Merino - one of the world's best sustainability standards for the environment, animals and people.

mr. splitboard - splitboards for the highest peaks everywhere

Designed in Bavaria, developed in Montafon, produced in the Ore Mountains and tested from Kyrgyzstan to Canada. The new mr.splitboards HIGH MOUNTAIN DE 165 comes for the 2021/22 season, is 2.9 kg light and the riding fun is said to be a mixture of the successful Prior BC Shape and the Prior Khyber. The HIGH MOUNTAIN DE 165 brings the extra portion of power and pressure into the turns, with additional energy and even more speed with maximum smoothness.

Mr.splitboards (Simon Graf) has been a passionate splitboarder for over 20 years and draws on a wealth of experience (distribution, sales, test offer and instructions for splitboarding). With his three shapes (All MNT, High MNT DE, Powder MNT), he covers all the needs of splitboarders (range of use, target group).

ORTOVOX - shiny gold and climate-neutral until 2024

ORTOVOX has won four awards at this year's ISPO Awards with its 2021/22 winter collection. The FREE RIDER backpack (FREE RIDER 28 and 26S), the new freeride dungarees Deep Shell and the 3 Finger Glove Pro were each awarded the highest accolade in their respective categories, the coveted Gold Award. The world's first avalanche transceiver with voice navigation, the Diract Voice, was named Product of the Year for its innovative strength. The Diract Voice has also already been described in our news "ISPO & Gear News LVS and Airbags 2021".

Christian Schneidermeier (Managing Director ORTOVOX) explains that the new, completely climate-neutral freeride collection is a real ORTOVOX milestone. Because: As a company, they want to be climate-neutral by 2024. All 18 styles for freeriders are produced in a climate-neutral way and do not use any harmful PFC finishes. The new products will be available in stores from September.

Penguin - repairing the tried and tested if necessary, that's what we'd like to present as PG clothing

Due to the major uncertainties in the market and the expected low order volume, the small Swiss company Penguin has decided to postpone its new products by a year. They are continuing to focus on their minimalist layering principle with one style per layer. For the 3-layer products, they are standardizing the colors for men and women, for both jackets and pants. A new product is only being planned for the fleece hoodie. True to the contemporary motto "It doesn't always have to be something new", Penguin supports the sustainable attitude of relying on tried and tested products and using them for as long as possible - with repairs if necessary (PENGUIN CARE). Penguin also relies on recycled materials and the shortest possible transportation routes in production. If it has to be long, then at least by ship. So it made sense to seek a long-term PowderGuide-Penguin partnership and order the new PG T-shirts, hoodies and soon also insulation jackets from the Swiss company - there will soon be a competition with plenty of spice.

Scott Sports - New Pure ski from Jeremy Heitz; is it only good if you heat like him?

With Jeremy Heitz - currently one of the best (fastest?) steep wall skiers (probably everyone knows him since his LaListe film; we are eagerly awaiting the sequel from the Himalayas) - the right tester has certainly lent a hand in the new development of a ski. The new SCOTT PURE is supposed to be a secret weapon for freeriders - it probably won't remain one - and with a progressive Titanal layer and a balanced flex, it ensures increased stability on the descent. In addition, the combination of paulownia and beech wood in the wood core helps to improve torsional rigidity. Sounds a lot like big turns in big mountains.

It remains to be seen whether a normal freerider will be able to exploit the advantages for normal freeriding. We will hopefully be reporting on this in a test shortly. In view of the fact that there has already been a Scott ski called the Pure (Scott Santiago Pure - if you are old enough to remember this ski, please let us know in a comment!), we will try to draw a comparison with this classic off-piste ski! The Pure will be available in 182 and 190 cm lengths, weighing 1,850 and 2,000 g respectively, with a TwinTip rocker and a sicecut of 128-109-142. The revised Scott Cosmos ski boot has already been reported on elsewhere.

UYN - air as an insulator, bird as a visionary temperature regulator

The base layer specialists - previously known primarily in professional skiing - have been partners of PowderGuide.com since this season - in a way, professionals too! For the next winter season, they want to increase comfort at low temperatures with new technologies. Of course, comfort also increases performance - at least for the pros. The BUFFERCONE technology requires body mapping and sets insulation requirements in relation to the relevant areas of the body. The hollow structure of the material conserves air, which acts as an insulator. Depending on requirements, more or less cavity can be generated (unlike with fleece material of the same density) and thus better insulation values can be achieved. For the padding of jackets, the developers at UYN have copied a lot from the birds' nest, which offers the best thermal insulation thanks to the intertwined structure of the simple (recycled) building material (branches, moss residues, etc.) and the round shape. Thanks to its microstructure with many air pockets, the AIRNEST material achieves the best warmth-to-weight values and is comparable to natural down - but it works better with moisture. AIRNEST is generated exclusively from textile waste, which is created during the production of other products.

White Risk - Learn, test, plan, no descents in avalanche tracks

White Risk will continue to provide support in the future with the latest tools for planning the safest possible tours in the winter mountains and is a very comprehensive portal for avalanche prevention. It helps with preparation, on the move and in training. New features are constantly being integrated, planning improved and the area of application expanded. You can build up a sound knowledge of avalanches, test your knowledge, prepare your tours online on the web or offline with the app, planned tours are synchronized between the web and app. Topo maps with slope inclination layers are available for Switzerland, France and Austria. The Pro version allows you to create your own interactive presentations.

Zanier - Vegan gloves leave animals in peace

Zanier has been the world's first climate-neutral glove brand since 2019. These efforts are also reflected in their cooperation product with Bleed Clothing. The outdoor glove BLEED Y ZANIER was awarded the ISPO AWARD and the Special Sustainability Achievement. Whether biking, in the city or ski touring, the glove is versatile. The glove is vegan, climate-neutral, recycled and recyclable. Zanier takes the gloves back at the end of their service life and thus closes the recycling loop together with its partner Sympatex® via its wear-to-wear system. In line with its climate protection philosophy, Zanier is pushing sustainable materials such as Tirolwool®, Primaloft® Gold Insulation Eco and Silver Insulation Bio, Sympatex® and loden from Austria in its collection.
