ISPO 2023 news and highlights

The ISPO Awards are a seal of approval for the most outstanding innovations in the sports industry. Surprisingly, this year's ISPO Colaborators Club Public Choice Award went to the trekking pole from Black Diamond. The Public Choice Award is awarded among all winners of the year 2023 by the community members of the ISPO Collaborators Club. The Collaborators Club consists of sports-loving end customers who choose their favourite product from all the winners every six months in the run-up to the ISPO Munich and OutDoor by ISPO trade fairs. Here is a brief overview of this year's powder-relevant awards.

Tecnica: Zero G Tour Pro

The Zero G Tour Pro ski touring boot from Tecnica has been significantly redesigned to improve both downhill and uphill performance while reducing its weight. This update emphasises functional aspects such as low weight and improved fit as well as the use of recycled materials and recyclability at the end of the ski touring boot's service life.

Dynafit Ridge Pro Boot

The Ridge Pro is the new premium boot from Dynafit in the ski touring segment. It was developed for passionate ski mountaineers who take their mountain challenges to the extreme and combines lightness with features for efficient ascents and strong downhill performance.

Ferreol Skis Surfeur 112

The Ferreol Surfeur 112 is a blend of sustainability and top performance and redefines the standards for environmentally friendly skiing. With this ski, the Canadian brand is launching an environmentally conscious option in the powder department.

Leki Hemp One Vario

Hitherto, hemp fibres have mainly been used in textiles. However, LEKI has developed the Hemp One Vario, the first adjustable trekking pole made from hemp.

Colltex Profibre ski skins

The Colltex "Vreneli" ski skins with Profibre technology set new standards in the production of ski skins. The innovative skins are manufactured using a newly developed technology. The fibres are applied and processed in a patented process and not woven as with conventional ski skins. The process offers various advantages.

Bauerfeind Outdoor Knee Support

Good news for outdoor fans with knee problems: The new outdoor knee support from Bauerfeind Sports stabilises and relieves the knee, the anterior joint area and the patellar tendon. This is achieved thanks to an innovative combination of Merino Compression Knit, Omega Pad and individually adjustable strap.

Suprabeam: M6XR multifunction lamp

The Suprabeam M6xr combines the functions of a torch, a headlamp and an area light, making it an all-in-one tool that brightens up all outdoor activities. Whether you're hiking, camping, running, climbing or working in the great outdoors, the Suprabeam M6xr offers a wide range of attachment options: You can wear it on your head, attach it to a helmet, hold it in your hand, clip it to your rucksack or attach it to a magnetic surface. The magnet is particularly practical when using the powerful lamp to illuminate larger areas.

LEDX Lights Mamba X-Pand G4 headlamp

Lighting in a new dimension: the Mamba X-pand G4 from LEDX Lights impresses with its compact size, low weight and powerful light.

The above list is not exhaustive, as a few more ISPO Awards were presented and some people may also find outdoor cooking utensils or sleeping bags for powder skiing interesting. You can find the complete list here.

Brands that did not receive an ISPO Award but still attracted attention through social media or on-site exhibitions are Orthovox, Scott, Fritschi and Qwicklane. Fritschi is a long-standing partner of PowderGuide and stands out from the competition thanks to its focus on safety. The revised bindings continue to impress with their functionality and release behaviour both downhill and uphill. Qwicklane, on the other hand, is a ski touring binding that has automated the switching of climbing aids on the ascent. The system is compatible with Dynafit and ATK bindings and should guarantee a more pleasant ascent experience. The team was not yet particularly convinced, as the binding is relatively heavy and not all settings can be made electrically, but that is of course up to you. So two very different binding manufacturers that the team noticed here.

Orthovox has also impressed in the field of avalanche backpacks and has revised the electric Litric airbag. Apart from the rechargeable capacitor, which inflates the airbag in a matter of seconds, the system impresses with its removable attachments and the highly variable areas of application associated with them.
