Gear of the Week | Christmas Special

The wish list of the PowderGuide crew and community

11/25/2012
PowderGuide
Oh horror! Christmas is less than a month away. Normally a clear warning shot that you should slowly but surely get to grips with the present madness. Wishing for presents, thinking them up, finding them, buying them, wrapping them and finally giving them. It's the same old song that has surely stumped everyone at some point. What, where, how? But what could be easier than peeking over the shoulders of like-minded people and copying from their wish lists? So here are the PG crew's Christmas wishes.

Tobias Kurzeder (Editor):

Real fleece jacket Sierra Long Sleeve Hood by Icebreaker

''Because I like fleece jackets more than anything. You can never have enough of them. But unfortunately all fleece jackets are made from petroleum. All of them? All but one: The wool fleece jacket from Idebreaker. Almost as fluffy as a "real" fleece, just as comfortable and with numerous advantages in terms of eco-balance. Extremely warm, never smells, dries quickly and always cuts a fine figure in the mountains and in the city''

Totti Lingott (Marketing):

The independent brewers' beer advent calendar

''Because I was born a Franconian in the beer paradise par excellence and it is well known that children there are fed with beer instead of milk...''
you can order it here

Marius Schwager (Editor & Community):

Maxi-Bandana Nikita from Bogner Fire & Ice

''Prevents breathing problems in Faceshot-City, protects you from the cold in high winter and sunlight on spring tours.
Plus, you can feel a bit like the chubby Parkdudes and Shawn White
. The only thing missing is the RedBull sticker!''

Knut Pohl (Editor):

Compass DP-6 from Recta

''A fully-fledged compass simply belongs in your backpack when touring. Even if I will never use it seriously. The DP-6 is the Mercedes of magnetic navigation devices and can do everything you never need.''

German Wehinger (Conditions-Report):

Traileader Pro from Tech4o

''An outdoor watch is extremely helpful on the mountain and mutates into a status symbol in the valley. I am looking for a watch that best meets my needs for fitness training, freeriding and mountain biking and has a good price/performance ratio. This is where the Traileader Pro scores highly''

Lorenzo Rieg (freeride touring):

Alpha SL Pullover from Arc'teryx

''Because I always wanted a super light but reliable jacket that I would only wear when skiing downhill or in the event of a surprise change in the weather on ski tours. The Alpha would probably also be the jacket I would take on long trips''

Lea Hartl (WeatherBlog):

Neve crampons from Black Diamond

''Weigh half as much as my crampons and are easily sufficient for most ski tours. Would certainly find themselves in my backpack much more often

Lars Oelmann (PowderAlert):

10 monster dumps this season on a touring lift that nobody knows

We were unable to find out Lars' Christmas wishes, but we are absolutely certain that he would want a lift somewhere in the middle of nowhere that only the lift operator knows about and that would be in an extraordinarily good jam location.

Jonas Blum (travel expert):

Antidote Free Power 4 Wrap from Movement

'Because stiff freeride touring boots are still a rare commodity. The new Movement is interesting and seems well thought out. What's more, it comes from a Swiss think tank with an excellent reputation. Reason enough to give the boot a try.''

And now it's your turn: Tell us your Christmas wishes. What's on Mr. and Mrs. Freerider's Christmas tree? The first person to post a well-founded Christmas wish in this forum topic will receive Totti's favourite wish, the Beer Advent Calendar from the independent brewers. 22 beer specialties from local microbreweries, which are often only available regionally, will sweeten, no, hop up the wait until Christi's cradle day. First comes first served - just like on any normal Powder Day.
But the places on the podium won't go empty-handed either: a PowderGuide.com cap of your choice awaits you.
