According to my perception of warmth, I'm not at all made for winter. Nevertheless, I spend three months in the snow every year and try to keep my hands, feet and head warm whenever possible. Gloves are certainly a subject that divides opinion. What is too warm for one person is certainly still too cold for me.
I have been able to test the Super Rabla from BD intensively since Christmas and am very impressed with the result.
The glove fits perfectly and is pleasantly warm for me at temperatures slightly below zero to around -14°C (as I said, I get cold fingers quickly). When the weather gets warmer, you can get paws that are a little too warm. Official information from the manufacturer -1 to -18°C.
The glove is cut very long, which is exactly how I like to pull it over the end of my jacket sleeves. I do a lot of photography and just like being able to get out of the gloves quickly, take a picture and then slip them back on. And I don't have to constantly open and close the Velcro on the jacket or adjust the drawstring on the glove cuffs. Once correctly adjusted, everything is perfect.
Fitting skins, rummaging in the backpack or, if it's super cold, even operating the camera is perfectly possible with the gloves on. The finger feel is good and the handling is surprisingly sensitive, not least due to its low volume and the soft, thin goatskin.
After just over 40 days of use, the glove looks like new. Not a trace of fatigue or brittle leather. And it is definitely waterproof.
An important criterion for me is how easily the glove dries. Due to the constant photography (I always take my gloves off for this), the glove inevitably gets damp or even wet in heavy snowfall. In the evening in a warm place, it dries very quickly and is ready for use the next day.
Conclusion
A glove that fully convinces me. Perfect for most days, the glove warms well, provides excellent protection and is robust. At the same time, the handling of the fingers is surprisingly little restricted. Just right for me "Gfrörli". For super cold weather I have the BD Prodigy with me, which keeps my fingers warm even at -20° C. And if it gets much colder, I just stay at home...
