Obertauern is located in the Austrian Alps in the province of Salzburg and the ski resort is situated at an altitude of around 1,740 to 2,313 metres. The village lies in a natural basin surrounded by the impressive peaks of the Radstädter Tauern. Thanks to its geographical location, Obertauern is one of the most snow-sure areas in Austria and is therefore particularly popular with winter sports enthusiasts.
Just in time for last week's snowfall, Obertauern opened the ski season on 22nd of November, opening its 100 km of pistes and 26 lifts. In addition to classic pistes, there are numerous opportunities for freeriding. The Freeride World Tour (FWT) has also recognised this: The premiere of the Open Faces Obertauern FWT Challenger took place here in March 2024. Tours and freeride opportunities are available on all expositions thanks to the village's basin shape. A mecca for freeriders.
