The Lungau is a landscape (and at the same time a political district) in the south-east of Salzburg and offers several advantages and attraction points for us downhill-orientated ski tourers thanks to its geographical location.

Shortly before the winter Eldorado of Obertauern, this fantastic tour, which is very snow-sure until well into spring, starts and leads through the scenic cirque nestled between the Großwandspitze and Teufelshörner to the Glöcknerin, from where you get a gigantic panoramic view of the mountain world.

The first impression of this tour is not the best: by car past the ski Eldorado Flachauwinkel and then the starting point below the Tauern bridge at the north portal of the Tauern tunnel. After just a few meters, however, you are completely away from the hustle and bustle and noise and are rewarded with beautiful, not too steep slopes.

To the incomprehension of many ski fanatics, this year the lifts were shut down in many places as planned at the beginning of April despite perfect snow conditions. However, the internet told us that Obertauern was still open. Reason enough for us to pay a visit to the village at an altitude of 1700 meters.
