PowderAlert 1 2022/23 | 3, 2, 1, Lift off!

At the moment, there are some cosmetics everywhere, but only in France and Lower Valais is there anything like a base. That's changing now! In the medium term, the whole of next week remains interesting, so real skiing might be possible next weekend. But more on that later.

So, squats, dust off the (touring) skis and finally get into the winter mood. I think it's about time at the beginning of December!

Alert period and areas

The alert applies to the southern side of the Alps in the Maritime Alps and from Monte Rosa to Ticino. All other areas on the south side are only just scraping the alert threshold and there is virtually nothing in the rest.

The period runs from Saturday to Monday evening.

Wind

The wind will be, to put it in internet meme terms, "not great not terrible". Normal southerly (easterly) congestion. Rather little on or behind the main ridge.

Where should I go?

Well, you don't have to travel here from far away. If you live on Monte Rosa (there are supposed to be 2-3 people), then you can certainly slide down a meadow if you want to.

Medium-term

Really meteorologically exciting. Whether that translates into exciting skiing is something we can only say at the beginning of the week at the earliest. But it should be wet, even in many areas.

Snow height tip game

As every year, there's a snow height tip game to go with a proper PowderAlert. Something like what is currently played in (almost) every office during the World Cup, only ethically correct.
