PowderAlert 10 2020/21 | WWW - The season finale!

More snow, more warmth

by Lars Oelmann 02/01/2021
Unfortunately, the finale is rather counterintuitive for a classic Ullrflix series, namely much too warm and not very exciting: More snow is coming from the west, but it's getting EVEN warmer than before.

Ullr apparently has to concentrate on other areas or the possible massive air mass boundary from the weekend, because here in the Alps it will be rather "more".

Alert period and areas

It will snow until Tuesday evening from the Arlberg to, and especially in, France.

Wind

It won't be as bad and in combination with the warmth it will also stick to wind-prone areas further up. It doesn't push very far to the main ridge and the amounts come mainly in the westerlies.

Snowfall line

Well up. First around 1500m in the west and 1200-1400m in the east and then tomorrow beyond good and evil at 2000m in the east and up to 2300m in the west.

The amounts

There will be about 30-50cm of paste from 2000m+ and in France or the French-Swiss border areas it can also be 60cm.

Where should I go?

There may be trees up to 2300m in Valais and France, but you have to know your way around there.

It will also remain changeable towards Wednesday and it's not entirely clear whether you'll be able to get to heights where there's enough powder.

Mid-term

Warm and warmer until the weekend. Then it's all unclear and everything from arctic to westerly is on the cards, except for cold dump locations. However, not all possibilities in the crystal ball are hopeless and it will quite likely be cooler than this week.
