And that is sorely needed, because we are back in early November on the snow side - or still are in some corners.
Like Captain Ahab, the freerider standsbehind the wheel of his winter-tyred vehicle, the booster strap strapped tight and the steering wheel pointed towards the middle of the road. And the buddy riding shot gun in the “road boat” calls out "there he dumps" as he gazes at the powder on the branches of the trees at the side of the road.
The freerider has been chasing the monster dump, his white whale, all his life. But when he finally catches it, what does he do?
Uh... ride powder, of course. Does he at least feel an inner emptiness when he reaches his destiny? Nope. After all, we're not philosophical literary critics here, we're powderhounds. Our life is simple. If it snows, we ride through it. If it snows a lot, we'll ride through it and go “woohoo” once or twice.
And to be honest, it's more of a normal whale than Moby Dick that we get here from Ullr, but after eight weeks of drought we're grateful for everything.
Alarm period and areas
The alert runs from Thursday until midday on Sunday, although it ends in the west on Sunday morning. The alert area extends from the Hautes Alpes in France to the Arlberg due to the west to north-westerly flow, but the core lies in the west from the Lower Valais to the Hautes Alpes.
