There's fresh snow: in the north. After all. Unfortunately, the whole thing has been canceled out in the last two days, but there should still be enough for an alert in the northwestern Alpine arc by Monday evening. The snow line fits everywhere. Only the amounts are not at all euphoria-inducing.
The first wave was unfortunately cut in half and by Sunday afternoon it will probably only be 10-20 cm with a focus on the Dachstein in the east. As the traffic jam there is notoriously underestimated, it could be 30 cm in the Salzkammergut or thereabouts. In the west towards Mont Blanc it will be 10 cm with difficulty. So unfortunately no deep powder at the weekend. The second wave will then hit the west again and will provide balancing justice in the northern Alps. However, as the whole thing doesn't take a day off here, but only briefly on Sunday afternoon, if at all, I'll combine both waves.
A total of around 20-40 cm should accumulate by Monday evening, with a focus on central Switzerland to Arlberg. It's snowing from the Hautes Alpes to the Rax. As you can see: unfortunately nothing earth-shattering and only just above the alert limit. With isolated potholes, I don't want to rule out 50 cm and anyone who finds one on Tuesday morning should at least enjoy something like a real powder day in the Northern Alps. Even in the medium term, Ullr doesn't have anything with a lot of fire in it for either the north or the south. But the models are still at odds and NOW would be a good time to do something for our powder future at the Ullr shrine, dear believers! So if you can, take a day off in the north on Tuesday and check out the freshly powdered mountains.
