It's snowing again This time in the north and Ullr is sending us a snack from the northwest. The key question here will be: to what extent will it accumulate by Tuesday evening, because the currently active front will not shed as much as the colorful radar and models suggest.
The showers afterwards, however, could accumulate in the Alps and provide alarm-worthy amounts from the Mont Blanc area to the Arlberg. Further east, less than 30 cm of fresh snow is to be expected due to the strong westerly component.
The snow line is powder-friendly and is dropping from 1000 to 1400 m, the wind is not, so it's a case of delicate fresh snow on a delicate basis in western Valais and elsewhere.
The amounts are difficult to estimate and although the models suggest 50 cm+, I don't really believe it and say that 20 to 40 cm could accumulate in the north-western Alpine arc by Tuesday evening. I see 50 cm as the upper limit of the pile-up and don't really expect it, but I'm happy to be proven wrong by the showers. Further south, there will be little to nothing due to the current. Although it will snow in the east, it will only be marginally more than cosmetic.
In the medium term, there will be a fairly cool northwesterly current, so there will also be a soft base in the north until the weekend. Whether there will be something delicious from Maitre d'Cuisine Ulleur and I will finally beat my flu will be clarified in the next alert.
