Snow of Tomorrow | Permafrost in Climate Change
02/28/2022 • Tobias Hipp
Permafrost - permanently and continuously frozen ground. Direct associations: the vast expanses of tundra in Siberia, where houses stand on "stilts" because of this, the northern Canadian wilderness or the freezing cold Arctic - all really far away. But what the Kitzsteinhorn, Zugspitze, Gemsstock or Aiguille du Midi have to do with it and why a 40° steep north-facing slope is not just about tour planning and avalanche conditions, you can find out in this issue of "Snow of Tomorrow". -

WeatherBlog 14 2021/22 | The storm is subsiding
02/23/2022 • Lea Hartl
The weather will remain windy and generally mixed for a few more days. From the weekend onwards, high pressure will increasingly prevail and, in keeping with the meteorological start of spring (March 1), the coming week looks very sunny and mild. -

WeatherBlog 12 2021/22 | Spring intermezzo
02/09/2022 • Lea Hartl
February develops a "Febrile" character and brings us a few days of mild, very spring-like weather before it becomes more unsettled and cooler again towards the weekend. Deep winter cold is not in sight, the snow hopes are focused on "mountain winter" due to westerly weather. -

Ullr takes heart in best politician style and promises everything to everyone! At least in the German-speaking Alpine region, things should be going quite well from Monday. (German-speaking regions south of the main Alpine ridge may forgive me this simplification...) -

WeatherBlog 8 2021/22 | Waiting for the rain
12/29/2021 • Lea Hartl
We don't have much to add to the oracle and his current rain alarm today. The weather in the Alpine region is not particularly pleasant, although the temperatures are certainly spectacular. From Thursday afternoon it will be less wet, but even warmer. The weather is expected to cool down at the beginning of next week. -

Snow height prediction game 2021/22
12/27/2021 • Anselm Köhler
Every fall has come to an end. Every winter, the first snow has enchanted the landscape. Every year, the bikes and climbing gear can be swapped for the skis from the summer camps at some point. This year was the same, only the snow climbing game extended the fall by 6 weeks and was on the road. -

As was already foreseeable last week, a powerful area of high pressure is currently building up over Central Europe. The high pressure will accompany us until further notice and unfortunately there is no snow in sight. The high pressure is blocking the current over the Atlantic and deflecting the frontal zone to the north, so that it is a long way off for us and does not affect our weather in a wintry way. -

The WeatherBlog also wanted to try a clickbait headline. Did it work? We'll give you the answer right away: maybe. The current week is still relatively winter-friendly, but things will become more uncertain from the weekend onwards. A significant and rather longer-lasting moderation is likely, but the exact timing is still uncertain. -

PowderAlert 4 2021/22 | After the alert is before the drought?
12/03/2021 • Lars OelmannIt's not quite so clear with the drought, but you should take advantage of the weekend and, if possible, the coming week, because the medium term currently seems to be rather unclear. More on this below. -

12/01/2021 • Lea Hartl
There will be a brief spell of sunshine today (Wednesday), followed by more snow on the northern slopes of the Alps. The weekend is also expected to be very wintry with snow down to low altitudes. -

PowderAlert 3 2021/22 | All systems Go!
11/30/2021 • Lars OelmannGet ready for freerider drop. The ongoing alarm, or rather the small appendage at the moment, ensures that the forecast amounts are even exceeded. More than a meter of fresh snow has fallen on the northern slope of the Alps. Good thing Ullr doesn't have to work from home!
