PowderAlert 11 2022/23 | A dump, not a joke!
03/30/2023 • Lars Oelmann
Just in time for the end of the season and the first of April, Ullr proves to have a special sense of humor and sends us another alarm. One wonders why he wasn't able to increase the frequency of alerts three months ago, but Ullr's disciples are patient and happy for any blessing. -

WeatherBlog 19 2022/23 | Consistently unstable
03/29/2023 • Sebastian MüllerThe changeable spring weather is still really cold in places and at times already thundery! The meandering jet stream continues to indicate stratospheric influence and it seems that we will still experience some fluffy precipitation in April. The weather in the Alps remains unsettled and summer is still a long way off. -

WeatherBlog 18 2022/23 | Spring-like changeable
03/22/2023 • Lea Hartl
Spring has arrived not only in terms of the calendar but also astronomically and in terms of skiing. The weather is correspondingly mild and increasingly unstable towards the end of the week, with "April weather" tendencies also in evidence. Maybe even colder with precipitation next week? Otherwise: Another IPCC report. The content is not surprising, but still important. -

WeatherBlog 17 2022/23 | Calm after the storm
03/15/2023 • Lea Hartl
The series of alerts over the last few days has noticeably improved the previously miserable snow record in the west and brought at least a small refresh in the east. Now the weather is calming down. Over the next few days, the fresh snow can be inspected more closely with high pressure, very mild temperatures and probably plenty of sunshine. -

PowderAlert 9 2022 /23 | Less roulette, more powder
03/13/2023 • Lars Oelmann
The alarm comes with a massive line of thunderstorms and will bring some powder to the Alps again. This time with less densely packed warm and cold air masses, which made things quite complicated last week: Saturday the west lost out on the powder roulette table and the north won, Sunday it was the other way around. -

WeatherBlog 16 2022/23 | Finally precipitation in the west
03/08/2023 • Lea Hartl
The current PowderAlert is a rollercoaster of emotions. Fresh snow: great, finally! Especially in the Western Alps, where hardly anyone can remember such a dry winter. But the snow line bounces back and forth with every front. Will the meagre base in the mid-altitudes be washed away for good? In any case, the fresh snow is good for the glaciers and maybe there will be a ski touring spring in the high mountains after all? -

WeatherBlog 15 2022/23 | Unsettled in the south, outlook uncertain
03/01/2023 • Lea Hartl
The next few days will be relatively sunny in the north with "normal", more or less seasonal temperatures. In the south, it will remain rather mixed with the influence of low pressure. There will also be some snow in the southwest (see current PowderAlert). It will become more uncertain towards the weekend; according to the current model opinion, the current will turn to the north on Saturday. -

WeatherBlog 14 2022/23 | Is winter coming back?
02/22/2023 • Sebastian Müller
In any case, the high pressure is over for now and we're in for a cold snap in the next few days, hopefully with more than just cosmetic snowfall. And yes, the Alps urgently need snow! The upcoming FWT finals in Fieberbrunn and Verbier could use it, as could all of us, and finally northern Italy, which is already fearing the next summer drought. We can find reason for hope further above us, in the stratosphere. -

WeatherBlog 13 2022/23 | High pressure is slowly weakening
02/15/2023 • Lea Hartl
With double-digit temperatures and plenty of sunshine, February now feels a lot like spring. Only there's usually more snow in spring... The next few days will finally see some movement in the weather. Large amounts of snow are not in sight, but it will at least be wetter again and the chances of a small refresh are increasing. -

WeatherBlog 12 2022/23 | Sun as far as the crystal ball can see
02/08/2023 • Lea Hartl
After a few turbulent days with lots of fresh snow, the sun is back for the time being. The view of the general weather situation - currently and in the crystal ball - is not very wintry and the WeatherBlog is a little bored. -

WeatherBlog 11 2022/23 | Accompanying blog to the alarm
02/01/2023 • Lea Hartl
The oracle has already announced the key points: The coming days will bring heavy north-westerly accumulation with lots of fresh snow and wind. In terms of snowfall, the eastern Alps (from around Arlberg) look better than the west. A look at the large-scale structures explains why this is the case! -

WeatherBlog 10 2022/23 | Wild Mediterranean: The Bora
01/25/2023 • Sebastian Müller
The weather north of the Alps and within the Alps continues to be largely trouble-free, with wintry temperatures and the prospect of fresh snow next week. In the Mediterranean region, on the other hand, there is a lot going on at the moment, which is why we are dedicating today's WeatherBlog to the windy days on the eastern Adriatic coast.
