Gear review | Penguin down insulation jacket with hood
03/05/2026 • Patrick WehowskyLightweight down jackets with high fill power have long been part of the standard equipment of ambitious winter mountaineers, ski tourers and outdoor enthusiasts, but they are also an everyday item for Big Finance: Patagucci sends its regards. At least I received several compliments on the first day for the great color selection, even though I wasn't sure how the color (purple) would suit me. You can find out how the new Penguin insulation jacket performs in winter conditions in the following test. -

Gear of the Week | Mammut Rime Light IN Hybrid Jacket
01/25/2026 • Lorenzo RiegIf I had to choose a must-have piece of equipment that you need for practically all mountain sports, I would probably choose a thin insulating jacket. The new hybrid version of the Mammut Rime Light is just such a jacket, and I really like it! -

Gear Review | Penguin fibreball insulation jacket ladies
02/02/2023 • Pamela WehingerAccording to the manufacturer, the Fiberball insulation jacket is designed for icy January days as a mid-layer or outer jacket. This concept has proved 100% correct for me. The jacket is comfortable to wear and offers high thermal performance at a low weight. -

Gear Review | Mammut Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket
02/24/2022 • Simon PfandlerAs long as we are on the move, we hardly feel the cold. But who hasn't experienced it: after just a few minutes at the summit, it creeps more and more into our limbs. I admit, a change of T-shirt would be appropriate now. But exposing my skin to the icy wind? I'm just too frozen for that. So I prefer to quickly put on a down jacket. -

Gear of the week | Penguin Pinneco insulated jacket with hood
01/24/2021 • Patrick WehowskyInsulation jackets are one of those things. From the 80s to the 2000s, things were relatively clear and straightforward. Fleece jackets were medium-warm insulation jackets that you wore either under a hardshell or on their own. Warmer insulation was then often the Michelin Man model, optionally with down or synthetic filling. A lot has changed since then. -

Gear of the Week | PYUA DULL Insulation jacket
01/17/2021 • Lorenzo Rieg
PYUA has stood for sustainable outdoor clothing since it was founded 12 years ago. This is also the case with the "Dull" insulation jacket, which is not only light, warm and packable, but is also made from 100% recycled polyester. This applies to both the filling and the fabric. As the jacket can therefore be completely recycled again, it is a product made for the circular economy. -

Gear Review | Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody
10/29/2020 • Johannes WolfA few years ago, Arcteryx launched the Atom LT Hoody, a versatile and now tried-and-tested jacket for the transition period. It is not without reason that the model has already been mentioned several times on PowderGuide and put through its paces. I have been able to test whether the current model is still as convincing over the last few months. -

Gear of the Week | Arc'teryx Proton LT Hoodie
02/23/2020 • Totti Lingotti
The Proton LT Hoodie from Arc'teryx has been around since last winter and since then it has been my all-purpose jacket for skiing, ski touring and as a lightweight jacket for the city. Due to its high wind and vapor permeability, it is certainly not designed as a particularly warming layer, but except on very cold days, it can be worn in any weather. The water-repellent layer works surprisingly well during short rain showers or longer snow showers.
