ContestHappening 4 2025/26 | It was worth a try.
02/27/2026 • Timo MacvanThe Freeride Worldtour confuses Kühtai with the Caucasus. Lots of helping hands, a good atmosphere in the sunshine, spring temperatures and a freeride community that, after a little foretaste, is first disappointed and then happy. A community that shows why it is so nice to be part of it. -

02/27/2021 • Stefanie Höpperger
In today's SnowFlurry we discuss a profile in which you can see that the susceptibility of the weak layer to disturbance has improved. In the last flurry, the same weak layer was even easier to disturb. -

02/22/2020 • Stefanie Höpperger
The warm temperatures continue in February. Where it is more like spring in the valley, the touring conditions at altitude are still good, even if the snow depth in Kühtai is slightly below average for mid-February. -

SnowFlurry 2 2019/20 | Introduction and overview
11/30/2019 • Stefanie HöppergerThis week, our newly acquired snow rummager repeats the confusion of symbols, abbreviations and numbers that can be found in a typical snow profile. If you know how, you can read all sorts of things from such a graphic and you don't always have to dig yourself to get an overview of the snow cover at a particular location. There's also a new profile from the Sellrain, so you can put your new knowledge into practice right away! -

The Tyrolean cable car and ski area program
10/19/2018 • Benjamin Stern (ÖAV)
The upcoming new edition of the Tyrolean cable car and ski area program (TSSP) and a new government program that includes several ski area expansions in Tyrol are causing a stir. Benjamin Stern works for the Alpine Association's Spatial Planning and Nature Conservation department and is often out and about in the backcountry as a mountain and ski guide. He is an enthusiastic freerider himself, but is critical of further development plans. -

Safety | Super sleuths
04/10/2016 • Johannes Wolf
Avalanche dogs save lives thanks to their good nose: despite modern technology, they are still irreplaceable. Like other mountain rescue services, the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Service trains the sniffer dogs. PG was on site and was amazed at how deeply the four-legged friends can sniff out scents. -

Freeride tour of the week | Gaiskogel
01/03/2016 • Lukas Ruetz
The Gaiskogel is very suitable for the start of the season thanks to the shady cirque in the upper part and the piste support on the lower half of the tour, or even when the snow conditions are poor, as they unfortunately still are at the moment. The tour is currently possible, but if you don't want to climb the piste for training reasons, you can of course take a shortcut with the lift. -

TouringTip Kühtai | Freeride-Tour Gaiskogel
04/29/2011 • Lorenzo RiegA great tour, with a relatively short ascent from the lifts in the Kühtai ski resort; with a long, challenging, often untracked descent to Haggen. Despite the short ascent, this is a freeride tour that should not be underestimated, with great views over the northern Stubai Alps.
