Gear review | Valhalla Bamboo 104
03/09/2026 • Max EliasA comparison between a freeride ski and a Black Forest gateau may seem unusual at first glance, as they are two fundamentally different things: a piece of sports equipment and a culinary product. Nevertheless, some metaphorical parallels can be drawn here: Both skis and cakes are made by industrious craftsmen with expertise and attention to detail - craftsmanship and tradition. They represent a combination of traditional materials and modern production techniques. - Enjoyment and experience: skiing in open terrain offers an intense and eventful skiing experience. Enjoying a Black Forest gateau is at least as sensual an experience, where flavors and textures merge. -

Splittie of the Week | Splittiewood or what are you watching?
04/08/2025 • Tobias LeistenschneiderSplittie of the Week is entering the season finale, but the current weather is driving the beads of rain onto the forehead of the author, who is mainly active in the Black Forest. The lexical re-creation of the oracle doesn't make the situation any better, but makes our reality all the more present. Thanks for that ;-) -

Ski touring with kids | What you need and what you should consider
02/03/2025 • Max EliasSki touring is more than just a sport - it is an invitation to experience nature intensively and discover the magic of snow-covered mountains away from the piste. But what does it take for children to enjoy this adventure safely? -

Gear Review | Valhalla 115 Bamboo
12/20/2022 • Max EliasIn a small factory in the centre of beautiful Freiburg im Breisgau, Frederic Andes produces fine skis and snowboards in small series by hand and with great attention to detail. Valhalla Ski's core business is lightweight, wide powder skis. These are available in different widths with three lengths each and in different core options, from super light to light. What all boards have in common is the demand for the most sustainable production possible and the greatest possible durability. -

Gear of the Week | Valhalla 115 Bamboo
03/27/2022 • Max EliasWhen Nordic philologists hear the term Valhalla, they think of the resting place of fallen warriors from Scandinavian mythology. PowderGuide users are more likely to think of the legendary movie sequence from the ski movies of the same name, in which a mountain full of naked skiers and snowboarders presents itself. -

02/08/2022 • Tobias LeistenschneiderAt an outrageous 1.5 kilograms including the airbag unit and carbon cartridge, the bright orange Mammut Ultralight RAS 3.0 airbag backpack stands for uncompromising lightness. It is a fully-fledged ski touring backpack with a stated packing volume of a proud 20 litres and all the attachment options you need in the backcountry. -

Videos of the Week #9 2021/22 | Other low mountain ranges
01/21/2022 • Sebastian MüllerOf course, the Alps are our favorite. But hold on! Other regions of Central Europe also have beautiful mountains, with mostly relaxing and sometimes exciting terrain and descents. Regional ski touring in the nearest low mountain range was the new discovery and rediscovery par excellence at the height of the pandemic: Badisch Columbia 2021! We stay at home and head east, north, west and south. There's snow everywhere and hopefully freedom to travel again soon. -

Videos of the Week #8 2021/22 | Vimeo Session
01/14/2022 • Sebastian MüllerOnce again, the fine artistic alternative for video material is highlighted: vimeo. Not everything is free here, but certainly none of it is for nothing. Well, I still can't get around youtube completely. You can expect a nice mix of amateur recordings and philosophical works, and yes, you see right, we have Japow on offer! -

Snow of Tomorrow | Time for some self-reflection
12/28/2021 • Jan Imberi
I am a winter sports enthusiast with heart and soul. And that's not surprising, as my parents let me walk through the winter garden on skis waxed with klister when I was just 2 years old. -

Test & Overview | Ski touring bindings for children
10/18/2021 • Baschi BenderIt was the end of August 2020, I had just returned from my summer vacation, the surfboard had been put away and the ski season was just around the corner. Like any normal skier, I asked myself typical questions for the time: When is the first snow coming? How many PowderAlerts await us? Is my setup right for the new season? -

PowderAlert 14 2020/21 | Ullr against the trend
04/05/2021 • Lars OelmannIn contrast to the last few years and the fears after the summery episode in March, there is now another nice alarm in April! With a northerly thaw and heavy showers and possibly record high altitude cold! (MeteoSwiss says: If minus 40 really does reach the Alps at an altitude of 5000m, you have to go back to 1973 to find anything comparable). -

Snow of tomorrow | The pandemic winter is also a climate change winter
03/15/2021 • Totti LingottiThis winter - and half of the last one - has been very special. But who am I telling? That's probably how the majority of our articles started. And yet I want to emphasize this once again. For whom has this strange situation not led to change? I can't imagine that there are many people around the world who haven't had to adapt at all as a result of the outbreak of this Covid-19 pandemic.
