The Ultenspitze is certainly one of the more frequently visited tours in the Schmirntal valley and therefore certainly not an insider tip. Nevertheless, it is often interesting, as its north-facing exposure means it often offers good snow well into spring. A good half-day tour due to its short length, although the upper section can of course also be done twice.
Ascent
Start at the hamlet of Lorleswald (parking lot in a bend of the country road). First ascend across a meadow to the forest, then continue through a long forest aisle in a south-easterly direction, then briefly along a forest path until you reach the tree line. Continue southeast towards the summit cross, which is already visible and can be reached quickly.
Descent
Of course, you can ski down along the ascent, even if the tour is very popular, the descent usually still offers enough space for fresh tracks. Alternatively, in safe conditions, you can follow the ridge from the summit briefly to the east and then descend to the north until you reach a forest path through a clearing (keep left here) in the forest. Follow this, partly pushing, back westwards until you meet the ascent tracks again just above the starting point.
