Videos of the Week #8 2025/26 | Fickle Business

Conditions are rarely ideal, but skiing is still possible

12/12/2025
Hannes Hemper
This week has it all. The two Kiwi-Bens present a cinematic masterpiece that they shot in their home country. Sage Kotsenberg delivers one of the coolest intros ever, whose animated style evokes nostalgic memories of old games. There's also one of the best SLVSH games in a long time - this time as an all-mountain version instead of in the park. And finally, Bucket Clips enters its fourth round: Rosina's passion project, which brings together women and FLINTA people in the freeski scene.

Video 1: FICKLE BUSINESS | The North Face

The two Bens are out and about in their home country, Aotearoa New Zealand. Good conditions are rare there - skiing is just fuckle business. Nevertheless, they don't let that stop them from finding new lines, camping in spring and living out their sense of humor. The shots and overall cinematography are impressive (thanks to Hunter Paull). Ben Richards in particular surprised me: Stylish tricks to switch like a Cork 9 Cuban show why he wasn't nominated for Breakout Skier of the Year for nothing.

Rider: Ben Richards and Ben Barclay

Video 2: ETERNAL DESCENT | Sage Kotsenburg

Pure nostalgia - what an intro. The animated character selection is terrific, plus the soundtrack and the slomo sequences that frame everything perfectly. Rene Rinnekangas adds his unmistakable signature, almost like a snowboard style house in video form. Thank you, Sage.

Riders: Sage Kotsenburg, Judd Henkes, Dustin Craven, Rene Rinnekangas, Sebbe De Buck, Nils Mindnich, Zak Hale

Video 3: 此刻:NOW - WeiTien Ho

His first solo project as a Whistler freerider takes on a very personal and warm character through the voice-over of his grandmother. We accompany WeiTien through his season on the Freeride World Tour - through failed attempts, setbacks and finally his first victory. A wonderful short film with a lot of heart.

Rider: WeiTien Ho

Video 4: Bucket Clips 4 | An All FLINTA/Female Ski Movie

Behind Bucket Clips are Rosina Friedel and her partner Ludwig Hagelstein, who is responsible for the editing. The project is much more than just a movie: it is a movement within the FLINTA and women's scene in skiing. It's incredibly refreshing to see how united and motivated everyone is. From park to powder, from kids to pros: everyone has their part and creates amazement, smiles and good vibes throughout.

Riders: Alice Michel, Amanda Krüttli, Anika Kuder, Anouck Darbro, Anrika Wamura, Audrey Friess, Christina Anderson, Claudia Rohrer, Connie Little, Dorothy Grundin, Drew Hooker, Ellen Damsgaard, Eleonora Ferrari, Emilia Hofmann, Erin Spong, Faith Stanton, Finley Good, Hannah Langes, Hunter Belle Hall, Jennica Folkesson, Jill Frey, Johanna Ochsenreiter, Johanna Sellman, Kathi Heisch, Kate Perry, Laura Pöbl, Laura Wallner, Lotte Hartmut, Maria Esteban Uña, Marion Balsamo, Naomi Urness, Niamh Dedecker, Olesya Lomakina, Piper Kunst, Rylie Warnick, Rosina Friedel, Sage Michaely, Stina Sjögren, Tereza Korabova

Video 5: LINES - By Mallory Duncan

"LINES" is an eight-minute experimental ski short film that explores the moments before a performance - where fear slowly turns into confidence. We follow skier Mallory Duncan and Seattle rapper Chima the Stubborn as their stories run parallel, weaving together backcountry skiing, original music and unfiltered emotion. I didn't know Mallory before, but the movie really surprised me in a positive way: strong images, impressive skiing and a creative approach that sticks with you.

Rider: Mallory Duncan & Chima the Stubborn

Video 6: capeesh presents CATPISS a movie by ecook

The first full-length ski movie by perhaps the strongest park ski team ever. Edjoy's opening segment goes straight to the heart - a true artist on skis. Dani Bacher and Edjoy deliver an incredibly sweet friendship part, while Tormod and Matej exude a much rougher, almost gangster-like energy in their segment. Jonna Kangas convinces with so much style that you want to rewind the movie several times. Team founder Ferdinand Dahl brings the film to a climax with a gigantic three swap between two street rails that takes your breath away.

Riders: Edouard Therriault, Tormod Frostad, Matej Svancer, Wyatt Dorman, Jackson Jenkins, Trym Sunde Andreassen, Kai Mahler, Jackson Wells, Joona Kangas, Hugo Burvall, Daniel Bacher, Ferdinand Dahl

Video 7: COLD CALLS | Blank Collective Films - FULL MOVIE

Blank is back. Year after year, the team consisting mainly of Salomon athletes delivers some of the strongest films in the freeride sector. This time the focus is on Jacob Belanger - a park kid from Québec who is now impressively cleaning up the backcountry, including creative switch butter takeoffs.

As usual, Alexi does the editing and has structured the video so that he navigates between the different segments via his laptop home screen, "calls" the riders and briefly asks them how they imagined their part. A funny and charming idea that fits the vibe of the movie perfectly!

The icing on the cake is an ender part by Josh Daiek, who is probably the fastest freerider when it comes to pure, powerful lines without big tricks.

Riders: Emma Patterson, Alexi Godbout, Jacob Belanger, Alex Armstrong, Bernt Marius Rorstad, Wyatt Gentry, Josh Daiek, Tom Peiffer

Video 8: Bakerview BY COLE RICHARDSON AND REID FERGUSON

Cole is one of my favorite skiers, mainly because he also does a lot behind the scenes: an art show, magazine work and his own ski for Head. He has built a team around this ski, which was first introduced in "Headcase". This team is now reunited in "Mt. Baker" and shooting in the "Grandmas" scene I visited this year - I was impressed by the kicker potential on location. New school style editing and music is not for everyone, but the kicker sessions and the team are absolutely amazing.

Riders: Floyd Guy, Adam Kuch, Colby Johnson, Stephan Lindsay-Ross, Ashton Chilton, Dale Vasey, Joel Macnair, Luke Matheson

Video 9: WASTED YOUTH - PISS MISSILE

A backcountry snowboard movie filmed in Interior BC. It features pillows, tree-boarding, a cool crew, a harmonious soundtrack and strong tricks. I didn't know the group before, but the lines and spot selection speak for themselves. Absolutely worth seeing.

Rider: Featuring: Taylor "TR" Roberts, James "Dozer" Coombs, Keith Martin, Jesse Smith, Seb Grondin, Darcy Keller, Antwan Tremblay, Chris "Blood "Curran, Sean Barrett, Charles White, Benoit Pageau

Video 10: All On Black | Tucker Carr & Lalo Rambaud

The two freeriders deliver a creative project in which a filter is used in many scenes in the edit, providing a thermal imaging camera perspective and symbolizing their heat and love of skiing. Artistically realized, with spots from Jackson Hole to France.

Rider: Tucker Carr & Lalo Rambaud

Video 11: Insane Big Mountain Skiing With Nick McNutt - Pressure Drop Full Segment

Nick McNutt has been in the scene for over ten years and is an integral part of the TGR crew. What a segment this year! Especially in the backcountry, switch riding and landings are a fine art, and here you see Nick almost more switch than normal. His Ender Zero spin is pure style.

Rider: Nick McNutt

Video 12: 【GRAIN】 by Gen Sasaki & Tatsu

The two Japanese, born in Niseko, take us through their freeride and street skiing. A cool short film with powder, but above all stylish street shots.

Rider: Gen Sasaki, Tatsu

Contest of the Week: SLVSH || Ross Tester vs. Tristen Lilly at ALTA

For me, this game will go down in history as one of the best. All-mountain games are much more varied than most park games, and the two of them put on an exciting battle! Switch-1, Cork-9s - neck and neck to the end. Thanks, Joss!

Rider: Ross Tester, Tristen Lilly
