The new Tyrol Ski Touring Guide by the two authors Axel Jentzsch-Rabl and Johann Zagajsek presents around 400 ski tours on 384 pages, mainly in the Tyrolean lowlands, the eastern part of North Tyrol. The structure and layout of the guide is very similar to the previously presented Ski Touring Guide Austria Volume 1, which was published by the same publishing house. The tours are divided into 7 regions: Kitzbühel Alps, Kaiser Mountains, Zillertal Alps, Tux Alps, Stubai Alps, Chiemgau Alps and Rofan Mountains. Each of these regions is further subdivided into several areas, e.g. valleys or special starting points for tours.
The individual tours are presented and described briefly but clearly and precisely. In addition to map excerpts, numerous pictures are used for orientation, which give a good impression of the character of the tour. Of course, all information about the tours, such as slope positions, altitude meters in the ascent, the difficulty of the tour, etc. are also presented.

Diverse selection of tours

The selection of tours is varied and very comprehensive. There should not be too many tours in the respective regions that are not mentioned in the book. The spectrum ranges from easy beginner, training or after-work tours, to challenging ski tours and steep gullies, to traverses and ski circuits. Popular tours are mentioned as well as "insider tips" or less frequented ascents to well-known peaks. Alternative descents, which are usually much more difficult but also more interesting than the standard variants, are also often briefly presented.

Incl. DVD with useful extras

The Tyrol Ski Touring Guide also includes a DVD with numerous extras: It contains four ski tour films and an avalanche instruction film, as well as the GPS data for all(!) tours and the tour data sheets as a PDF for printing out or saving on your smartphone. This has the advantage that you can take all the essential information with you on tour at any time without having to pack the whole book in your backpack.
Overall impression - book rating
A great guide that should quickly become the standard work for the areas presented - clear, comprehensive and precise. No ski touring fan's library should be without this book. Order and further information
